I have had the Jeep for a month now and will start making several long road trips. I am in the "Need a full sized spare club" and very happy that it will fit underneath the truck bed.

I want a full functioning spare by the cheapest set up possible. It does not need to be a matching rim or even tire. I am looking at going to a 37 x 12.5 spare. It is the cheapest 37 size I can find. Will it be okay to mount it factory spare rim. I believe it is 17x7.5, or do I need to pickup a cheap 17 x 9 rim with some sort of backspacing so the spare can be used without wheel spacers, etc. I will only use the spare to get me home and then to the tire shop. If I go with the matching rim/tire combo, it will put me over $1000.00 for the spare. If I go with a cheaper tire and rim , it should be around $550.00 or so. I want a spare that can be put on the front or rear if possible. If not, I can move the good tires around to accommodate.

I'd run 12.5 on a steel 7.5, others may not.

Another option is to go for a 37x11.5 like the nittor trail recon

Thanks for your response. I actually looked at that one and it was $160.00 more for one tire than the 37x12.5 Milestar Patagonia. On the 17x75 rim, I am worried about the backspacing/possible scrubbing.

If you’re not worried about doing a 5 tire rotation and just need a backup tire, search OfferUp or Craigslist for a used one. I bought my 37” spare for 100 bucks with full tread on it, someone bought it and it rubbed on the fenders of their truck so they let it go. There’s also a 37” Toyo down the road from me with 75% tread remaining for 50 bucks. They’re out there if you need em. Should save you some cash and worst case scenario you can buy a small spacer if you think it might rub. I’d recommend putting the spare on the truck as soon as you get it to confirm fitment so you’re not finding out it doesn’t fit on the side of the road when you actually need it.

If you're just using it to get you home (and not doing the whole 5 tire rotation thing) then save the money and just keep the regular sized spare under there, or I guess spring for a rubi spare or something.

Unless you're leaving the axles locked on the drive home the worst thing you'd experience is a little pull to one side.

Plus, then you can use that $$ for more mods ?

Looking for a 37" spare. Try Walmart.com. They have them for under $300.00.

or do I need to pickup a cheap 17 x 9 rim with some sort of backspacing so the spare can be used without wheel spacers
TACTIK 5 Spoke Classic Wheel in 17x9 with 5.25in Backspace for 07-23 Jeep Wrangler JL, JK and Gladiator JT | Quadratec

These are actually just my full time wheels. i bought 5 of them when they were on sale (they sent me 10 and double charged me because they're quadratec. And made returning them a HUGE hassle because they're quadratec, but that's another story for another time)

I run 12.4 (315) width tires on them with no issue, as one would expect at +6

Stopped by DIscount Tire on the way home and bought a spare tire/wheel combo. I went with the 37 x 12.5 x 17 on a rim that has the proper off set to use as a funcitonal spare on the road. I hope I will never need it, but at least I have it. I will find out if it fits underneath the bed once received. The technician was not sure if it would or not, but is leaning on not.

It's always good to have a back up plan. Thank you for your patronage.
