Ok…. So I ordered up all new speakers and went with (ALL) MB Quarts.
Let me say this off the bat…if you are NOT prepared to pull the dash on both sides DO NOT THINK ABOUT DOING THIS.
The upper dash speakers are a breeze. Simple pry the speaker cover up and pull out (2) phillips head screws and unplug the wire harness. Both take about 5 mins to do.
Sound Bar speakers…. Soo many to go with. I went with 6x9’s. I modified the speaker area as the factory speakers occupy smaller areas. Trace out the 6X9 area and start cutting. Pretty simple but time consuming and MESSY!
I was actually amazed at having the “premium” system…the speakers were small and VERY light weight. The MB Quarts were MASSIVE! Huge magnets and very well built. This took about 2 hours.
Last but definately NOT the least…. The knee panel speakers. MB Quart makes a replacement box that mimics the factory but the speaker is about (2) times as large as the factory.
The ENTIRE dash and head unit must come out. Therr are several videos out there that show it. Follow them…take your time and it will work out. I had NO screws left over but this job took about 5 hours.
Total time approximately 8 hours.
Sound: There is NO comparison. I had already had the factory powered sub which stayed and I put the Kicker powered 10” sub next to it. That combined with the Phoenix 12.1” Tablet, this thing ROCKS.
I have not even played with the sound stage or EQ settings in the Phoenix and it is a unbelievable difference.
All speakers were ordered from AMAZON, proving you do NOY need to drop $1K on speakers to have an amazing sound.
If anyone goes down this road and needs help wirh dash removal, I will be more than happy to assist.
I did NOT take pictures as this was a solo job and was extremely time consuming combine with 90-95 degree heat, it was NOT a party to say the least. I would however do it again. I did NOT expect the sound difference that was created.
