Not to sound ignorant, where can I get the actual best books on my jeep eco diesels. I read lots here and there but I know someone must know where to start the library. I've got a 21 JLU 3.0 with 70k and a new to me 21 JT 3.0 with 40k. Both rubicons. Im OK with stock till when ever. Just want to keep them going. Rebuilt everything but long block in my 76 Cj5. Last full rebuild I personally purchased the parts and built was a 350 small block 25 years or so ago. Probably 5/10 others helping friends over the years. Fixed the basics on my fuel injected engines (got help by others on the fuel systems past first generation fuel injection) vehicles since then. Actually assisted on maintenance (worked for IH for a couple years) for fuel injected diesel engines some in my late to mid 20s. Now 66.

So if I live long enough, id like to become knowledgable now before the day comes (and purchase any tools I dont have) so I can help teach my son 36 and his boys 6/11 (grandkids) how to rebuild the 3.0 diesels when the time comes. RE-Built my first CB160 honda from the ground up, literally at 11yo with my older brother. Got a pallet at Christmas from my brother who bought the pile of parts at the Pomona Caliornia swap meet at the big drive in.

Your guys milage estimates, that will be 150-200k in 3-5/7 years from now. Like others i have the basics of understanding the def system. Im researching the best way to learn more how often and when my 2 eco diesels do their regens etc. I have yet to see the regin warning on either dash. And we drive both vehicle slow for 5-10 miles at 4-6 mph 2-3 times a week. With 10/20 min each way at 50-70 to get coffee before or after. My wife and I are security at a camp ground. All that said, mostly going around the park 1-3 times i night recording who is actually in the park for association record keeping. Every couple of weekends we take them on a 200+ mile Rt to our property in another city. We go from 20mpg during week to 24-25 by the time we get home.

Directions to start building general and specific knowledge about the 3rd gen engine is grearly appreciated.

Retarded...err... I mean Retired
I have a 3rd gen eco and have around 63k miles. I'm almost at the point going the tune route. But I hear hangups on GDE and fuel dilution. I watched videos from multiple tune specialist calling their tune lazy. Mr Tunes/ EOC hangups are the legality and puts more stress on the already weak bottom end of the motor. This what I've gathered from forums and videos. The plus side is better mpg as diesel where I live is super high $. Better acceleration is also a bonus. I daily my jeep driving 25 miles to work and 25 miles back. Weekends I like to hit the trails. Pull a 4k lbs trailer 8 times a year. Any suggestions from the guys that has these tunes would be appreciated.
I put the GDE tune on last year, and like it. I have only done one oil analysis so far, and it did show a little fuel dilution, but nothing extreme. I change oil every 5000 miles anyway, so I don't see that as an issue. Excited to hear about the Afterlife tune GDE offers. After all the trouble they had with the EPA in the past, I wouldn't think they would even think about something like that.
The other thing to consider, (from what I read) is Keith at GDE worked on the OEM tuning with Mopar at some point, so has intimate knowledge of these engines. FWIW....

Im researching the best way to learn more how often and when my 2 eco diesels do their regens etc. I have yet to see the regin warning on either dash.
I have a 23 rubi diesel. I'm 100% stock except I do have a scanguage2 to monitor soot and regen.

Mine regens approx every 700 miles regardless of soot level. It will also regen anytime my soot level reaches 80%
I've gone from 8% (right after a regen) to 80% over about 10 days (and 170 miles) of strictly around town driving a few times, but most of the time I get a 100 mile highway trip in there somewhere and that keeps my soot level from rising quickly.

When It regens in town, I just put the trans in manual mode and keep the rpm up around 2500 and it regens even when driving 30ish mph on surface streets.

When driving on long trips at hwy speeds, my soot level will slowly go down, today on a 200 mile trip it went from 62% soot down to 30%.

Hope that helps a little, you can only monitor your soot levels with some sort of additional Guage or app.

Thanks, Tim
