Get 4 New 37's, Keep Using Factory 33 Spare?

I found several similar threads but none on this specific question.

It's almost time to get new tires and i would like to run 37's. (I have Mopar 2.5" lift.) Most people here seem to like 37's, and apparently some are able to fit a smaller 37 in spare tire well. Awhile back my dealer also indicated a smaller 37 could fit underneath. But now the same tech has apparently changed his mind on this point and now says spare well can take 35 max. (I didn't speak with him directly this morning; hearsay from parts guy, but apparently admissible as an excited utterance.)

Anyway, instead of the five 35's parts guy quoted me, i'd like to get four 37's and just leave intact the factory 33 spare.

Will this work to limp home? Interstate limping possible?

I don't believe i have Trac-Lok or any limited-slip diff. My window sticker says:
4:1 Rock–Trac® Heavy–Duty Part–Time 4WD System

I gather from threads this might be ok if i turn off traction control.

Does it matter if small 33 spare is on front or rear? (there are front and rear lockers)

If 33 is too small, perhaps i could get a used 35 for use as spare.

I’m no expert but I was always told mixing tire sizes is a big no-no. Especially on the drive wheels. Even with an open diff, your differential is dealing with two tires spinning at different speeds. Plus most modern traction control is never fully off. Even on the keeps I think you have to be in 4LO for it to fully turn off.

Personally, I wouldn’t risk it. At best you possibly can limp along at 5-10 mph before traction control kicks in and at worst you could burn up or blow out your diff gears.

My 2.5" Clayton Off-road Overland plus kit fits a 37" tire in the stock location!

It will work as long as you don't like having pesky things like differentials.

Thank you, good to know. I've seen references to track bar, not sure what it does exactly but it seems to be a factor. From the Clayton site it looks like this will allow virtually all 37's to fit, so it seems the track bar is the main impediment to using 37's?

I have Mopar lift. Is this adjustable track bar compatible? I know it's suspension related. Don't want to do anything to cause death wobble, etc.

Are there any 37's that fit without using this adjustable track bar?

tell them youll put it in the bed and then when you get home you can put it under your bed. i have bfgs in mine. only bad part is the spare wheel isnt the same but o well.

Same as what others have said. A 37 will fit without any problems. I've been running with a 37 Nitto Ridge Grappler under the bed for a year now. Drove from the Seattle area to LA twice along with going to Tucsan and Death Valley, and haven't had any problems.

You can use a 33 as a spare just fine. Just stay out of 4wd and put it passenger front, the front passenger is disconnected in 2wd thanks to the fad so you will just get some abs lights from the wheel speed sensors.

Echoing folks here …

Plan for 5 tires and wheels, and run a 5 wheel rotation. Longer life, and piece of mind no matter where you are or where you have to go to get home.

I’ve got the Mopar lift, and have been running 37” MT Baja Boss (36.5” real size, so not small) on AEV Borah wheels for a year — including a full size spare and wheel at full inflation under the bed. Just a little trim on the inside of the hitch tube and you’ll be set. I do lots of trails, including the BoH Dickey Bell trail just yesterday, and have never had a problem.

The dealer told me it wouldn’t fit, too. Like @Jocww said, just have them put it in the bed then mount it yourself when you get home.
