The Rivian is super cool and all, but it’s like the Honda Ridgeline and the Ford Maverick, it’ll do a little of everything ok-ish but isn’t great at any of it. I’d love to have one for the road, but I’d keep my Gladiator for the off-road stuff.

The Rivian's pencil-sized tie rods are scary - especially considering the power and weight they're trying to control. It's no wonder they snap like toothpicks if you ever actually take them off road.

Probably a perfectly serviceable truck for what the average suburban home owner would do with it…Saturday morning latte runs and do “truck stuff” at Home Depot (get a few bags of mulch).

With those lines… it’s going to look like shit once it gets a ding or scratch or two. Add some body damage to any brick shaped Jeep and you’ve got character.

I can’t imagine taking one up to the top of BB pass, or Engineer pass. Once the battery is done, do you leave it there? Do you carry a solar panel and hook it to the battery? Naw! Give me an ICE, and a few rotopax fuel cans and I’m set

Not true, the rivians allow for tow charging, so you can tow it
You would hopefully be able to tow without charging as well. Tow charging is gimmicky but out on a trail somewhere it'd be tough to pull something that heavy over broken ground AND fight the added resistance.

We have a few Rivians around town and I was struck how small they look in contrast to the current crop of full size trucks. It's fairly compact but looks more so at a distance because of the sedan like contours.

The evolution of the electric truck is very much in progress, but I have to say that a truck with off-road pretensions needs better body protection. The first and last part of my gladiator that is liable to 'bump' something are the steel bumpers. Somehow, I suspect the fascia of the Rivian wouldn't fair as well in a contest with a rowdy mountain laurel. Likewise, is there any means to mount side rails or are the edges of the skateboard chassis up to the task of taking a hit?

I would feel like I’m driving a computer if I picked up one of these Rivians. I prefer a more analog experience, not wondering what drive mode I need to put it in in order for the computer to get power to the wheels properly.

It's not complicated and will work better than your 'analog' car.

I would choose Mohave.
But if I have to choose an EV truck, my first choice would be a Rivian (in the iconic blue or yellow) or a Hummer.

im pretty heavily invested in rivian and i feel this every time I check the stock prices ?‍♂ hopefully they come out the other side of this. I really line the company and their concepts.
Their stock tanked on Thursday because they announced $1.5 billion convertible notes. I bought some shares as a long term keep.
But Bank of America which usually does conservative forecasts reiterated a "Buy" for $RIVN with a $40 forecast the same day they announced the offering if its any consolation. :)
