Hey all, I've been a creeper on this forum for some time, first time posting. Hopefully I'm abiding by forum rules here, but I am (very recently) a sales rep with Dave Smith Motors in Kellogg ID, and a proud Ghobi Gladiator Rubicon owner. I'm Retired from the US Marine Corps and this is my fun civilian life job. I did a search of Dave Smith in the forums and was glad to see it looks like everyone's had a good experience here. If you guys haven't heard about Dave Smith Motors (DSM) it's the number 1 Dodge, Jeep, and Ram Dealer in the world, and they tend to crush the competition on prices and inventory. Kellogg is a little ski town in the mountains of Northern Idaho.

Dave Smith is offering some awesome deals right now on Gladiators especially, and we have an accessories department which is about the size of a costco to kit your new rig out it. Google Dave Smith Motors and check out the "Specials" tab as they have a number of Gladiators on special. I don't know if I'm allowed to post links to a dealership and don't want this to look like an ad for the dealership because it isn't, just want to help spread the word about DSM's pricing.

My name is Lane Masters, and my office line is (208)786-7214 and email is [email protected]. I'd love to help get people into a new rig so please feel free to reach out. This isn't a sales pitch; I am a serious jeep guy and I love selling them. If you call in on the main line, ask for me.

I owe this forum some big thanks already as I use it to answer a lot of questions at my new job and also while I work on kitting out my Gladiator. Looking forward to being a member! Once I have my mods installed on my Gladiator I'll be posting photos of it.

-Lane

Here's a link with an ad special Rubicon, Rebates applied already on it and it reflects Idaho, Washington, and Alaska rebates (your rebates may vary as they're based-on location):

Someone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the forum currently has any significant west coast dealer representation. I think the big discount dealers here are in IA, VA, and TN.

It's not going to be an easy proposition (i've spoken with my GSMs/GMs/DPs before about similar things before and they aren't very receptve) but if you really want to drum up some business and make a name for yourself I suggest you have a chat with whoever is the highest in the foodchain you have regular access to about starting a program similar to:

Gupton Motors up to 8% below invoice | Jeep Gladiator Forum - JeepGladiatorForum.com
New Years Special!! Up to 7% under invoice | Jeep Gladiator Forum - JeepGladiatorForum.com
7% Under Invoice on Jeep Gladiator Orders | Jeep Gladiator Forum - JeepGladiatorForum.com
Mopar Extended Warranty $50 over Dealer Cost @GrangerMotors | Page 6 | Jeep Gladiator Forum - JeepGladiatorForum.com

Each of the 3 dealers above pull a lot of business from out of town and out of state. But, they're all east coast or mid-west. Having an option that isn't a 4 hour flight away (or a much longer drive with a trade involved) could be a solid venture.

If you're able to get something going, dont forget about jlwrangler forums, 1500 forums, chysler forums, durango forums. Probably not going to get your dealership to agree to discount charger/challengers this year though.

You might spend your whole career delivering flats, but from previous experience i'd rather do 3 flats a day rather than twiddle my thumbs waiting for the home run that rarely if ever showed up.

Doubt anything like that will ever come to the northwest region. People here are able to afford more generally due to the big cities and yuppie areas. And every business around takes advantage of that knowing they will just get more money. Its kinda a toxic trend and costs just continue to go up. It would be nice though.

Anyone looking in this area should definitely stay away from Walla Walla. The folks I talked with down there were total @Holes and told me to just “take what you get and be happy” when poking to understand why the southeast is so much cheaper

Thanks for the information! I just got the new pricing sheets and it looks like they're going to be roughly $500 over invoice on Gladiators and all the 2022 jeeps we have on the lot. Thats all before rebates so some of these will probably come in below invoice. Military and first responder rebates alone get it to invioce.

Please send people my way that's terrible and I'm not far from Walla Walla. I'll take care of them.

I wish that you'd been around when I bought my Gladiator. You guys were my first call after my buddy had such a good experience doing a Fly-N-Drive purchase of a Power Wagon from your company, but I got such a bad price offer I wound up buying from one of the Las Vegas dealerships. Oh well, next time!

This was my price on my 23 gladiator Rubicon from Gupton. No surprises, no BS, no games. They picked me up from the airport I gave them a check and that was it, literally could have been in and out in 20 minutes. There’s your bar.

Interesting. I paid just about same price locally in western MT for a loaded 22 Rubicon. I thought Grupton was supposed to be thousands cheaper based on what I saw in other threads.
but the retail on the sticker of mine did not say 71K. I think it said 62K

Sorry that was your experience, I know at one point prior to my starting inventory got tight and for the first time in like 50 years DSM had to raise it's pricing but now things are stabilizing and we're going back to the low deals that made this business what it is today. nonetheless I had a Ram client come in today who told me DSM was $8000 less than his local dealer in CO.

Without the build sheet I couldn't say how we compare precisely, but our processing pricing is similar, and we also pick people up at the airport. We have a 2022 New Rubicon right now that's coming in quite a bit less than that. Again would need a full build sheet to be able to compare apples to apples. From what I can see it looks like a good price though. Their processing fees are right on. A lot of dealers sneak in insane fees with processing; ALWAYS ASK FOR DEALER/DOCUMENTATION FEES. DSM's literally cover paying our documentation, detail, and wash bay people's salary. We usually tint all our vehicles front windows too.

I should also say, if anyone is looking at another dealer, feel free to give me a call with the VIN and I'll see how we compare. If you're getting a good deal elsewhere, I'll tell you!

Ive read Dave Smith is brutal when it comes to upsales at paperwork time? 8 Hours wearing a guy down? Sounds like cruel and unsual punishment to me.......

Check your inbox.
In Western WA, I see a lot of Dave Smith plate frames, and when you drive through Kellogg, you have to be amazed that this dealership can be so big in the area.

They must be doing something right.

In order to get business you'll need to be around the 5% under invoice range, that is what you can get from Nampa, ID on a custom order. I checked with DSM and the best you would do was FFP price with Tread Lightly affiliate, aka 1% below.

Hmm... I wonder who this may have happened with. From what I've seen this is inaccurate. The goal is to get people in and out quickly since most clients are from out of state and are eager to hit the road. If I do my job preloading a deal most folks are in and out in an hour or two. Sales staff are paid on commission, but it's a flat rate; so upselling makes less sense than selling a lot of vehicles. Volume sales is how the business model works. I'm sure there is some variation from sales consultant to sales consultant, but the big saying here is that surveys are more important than sales. Personally, I've talked some Jeep customers down from spending Rubicon money if the vehicle is going to be a pavement piece. Again, I'd say ask for me, I'll give you straight details and if you find a better deal elsewhere, I'll tell you to go buy it. This is my fun job; just so happens to be in the small town I chose to settle in.

Kellogg has a population of 2200 people, I was told by a forest service buddy that the Elk population dwarf's the human population in this area. I think something like 90% of DSM's business is from out of state.
