No doubt, people with lockers and 40" tires get stuck all the time, a stock Rubicon with lockers probably isn't going much further than any other Gladiator in most scenarios... I agree, the enthusiasts that are actually tapping into that extra capability are probably few and far between, especially if their rig is close to stock. That being said, not actually knocking the Rubicon lockers, it's a nice feature

If you get an Overland and put $3k into it, you'll still have saved $7k and be more capable than a stock Rubicon or Mojave
Gears, lockers, t-case, and tires for $3k? How and where?

Most Rubi owners do not use the lockers because they do not take them off road.

The difference between locked and not is huge. Anybody with experience wheeling with lockers knows this.

2” lift with disconnecting sway bars and tires and you’ll go as far/further than a stock rubicon.

Bring your stock rubicon to a muddy trail that swallows up 40” builds and a locked rubicon will get stuck early in the trail with the other Gladiators.

Do lockers make you more capable? Yes. Is a Rubicon going to blow another Gladiator that has just LSD out of the water because it has lockers? In most offroad scenarios I’d say no. Which was the point, in “most scenarios.”

Anybody with experience wheeling with lockers knows this.

Step 1, lockers.
step 2 what ever you want. All the flex in the world doesn’t do much if you can’t effectively put the power to tires with grip.

I love the "in most scenarios" argument. In most scenarios a gladiator wont take you anywhere a subaru cant either as most scenarios are the grass on the side of your driveway or a dirt road.

You're either doing things that are helped by lockers or your not. If you arent then you dont need lockers, but if you want to tackle those trails that do, then you need lockers and the unlocked will be left behind. Typically things that require front and rear lockers are more than the average person is willing to tackle so the front locker is overkill on what i'd imagine is the majority of rubicons.

All of the gladiators have very effective traction control so… lockers not so necessary anymore. Mine on 37’s 3,5” lift, limited slipped Max Tow and I hardly use 4x4. I’ve had a rubicon and plenty of trucks and Jeeps with lockers. My Rubicons always had issues with the lockers. Unless you’re rock crawling… better not do that with a stock locked Rubicon with lift and big tires as they tend to have issues.

I agree, if you need lockers you’re probably past what the average person is willing to tackle. And if you’re in that scenario with a stock Rubi, you’re probably getting stuck anyway

More or less, yes.

The suspension and frame reinforcement on the Mojave is better than the Rubicon. The option for the diesel and the 4:1 TC is better on the Rubicon.

The rubicon makes more sense for people wanting to upgrade the suspension, as you aren't investing so much cash into he stock Fox bypass setup.

Honestly though, almost no one in the market uses even the rear locker on either model. People are getting them for the overall looks and trim level. Enthusiasts are such a small portion of the market, despite how important we think we are :)
If you say almost nobody’s using the lockers on them you must not hang around with people that go off road, I have a Mojave and I’ve used the lockers quite a bit two weeks ago. I was in an off-road park with about 50 other chips and I’m guessing some of them were using the lockers also.

mmm. Idk about this. I used mine before even having 3500 miles on it….

A JTRD with the Xtreme Recon package. 2" lift, 4.56 gears, 37" tires, and bead lock rims. A 3 speed transfer case. 1 to 1 hi range, 2.73 to 1 mid range, and a 4 to 1 low range. :jk:?
Ooo take my money. But dont forget a 2-Lo option. I have a conversion in my TJ and use it all the time when just wanting to craw slowly looking for elk, or pulling logs across my lawn. It comes in handy a lot. Not sure why its not a thing……. sharp turns and 4-Lo doesnt always work well.

Exactly, we are the enthusiasts. We use the lockers, etc. But, we are such a minor component of the vast majority of people buying Jeeps. That was the point. Most people are buying Rubicons and Mojave because they "look cool", are the "top trim level", etc.
