There were no codes on the scanner.

Then it did it again today, twice. Btw, they disconnected the battery because the Jeep thought it was still running when the fuel pump fuse was pulled.

So he found out that moving his brake pedal right and left, then hit the button and it turned off. They repeated this several times. You heard right. Kick the brake pedal right and left, then hit the button again. This is beyond bizzare.

At this point they think it is something in the ignition switch. But because it is so weird, he´s taking it to the dealership tomorrow.

There was also a message ¨passenger air bag on¨ that alternated with the speedo.
I think Pennywise has moved into this thing. LOL.

Btw, just for good measure, he took the aux battery in to Autozone to request an exchange. They gave him a new one and said they have had a number of returns on that battery due to failures and problems.

I´ll report back when we get a diagnosis and hopefully a fix.

The brake pedal switch is also a rheostat........ not a "switch" with on/off directly.
Can't see how side play matters, unless there's some serious electronics issue going on - maybe a wiring issue as well.
Side to side should make no difference electrically. Heck, I hit mine now and then just shifting my feet around while driving, esp with cruise.

If you said this made it start, I wouldn't flinch. Sensor used to make sure the brake is pressed. The clutch switch on a lot of old cars was a common failure.
But for shutting off? That's new to me! Still sounds like the same switch, but the behavior has to be software controlled.

And as noted by some members here - if the vacuum is gone, it takes a heavy foot to engage that. So, just moving left and right isn't going to trigger that part. You can't rest your foot on it, you have to push, takes some movement down.

Exactly. But the weird ass thing is it is repeatable. He tested it over and over including testing tapping it normally....forward and back. It is 100% Bizarre.

I messed with my brake pedals on both my JL and JT and neither pedal even has any play in them side to side.

I told him to hire a priest to do an exorcism if the dealership can´t fix it.

It is at the dealership as I write this. It's a dealer with a fairly good rep and I sent him to a service advisor I've known for many years who is good at translating the concerns to the techs.

Stay tuned!

I would be focusing on the Radio Frequency Hub (RHF) on the inside back wall behind the rear drivers side passenger seat. Water leaking from a back window leak has been known to get into the RFH and cause starting problems.

Which is ironic because these are rain-rated..........

Update: Dealership tech is digging into this area today. They have contacted Stellantis tech support and this apparently is a 1 of a kind problem. They have not seen it, but they are helping direct their search for the culprit.

I had a Cadillac STS do that, refuse to shut off. Turned out to be a transmission sensor of some sort - where the vehicle didn't know it was in park. I had to learn to shift in and out of park a few times to get it to shut off while I was awaiting repair.

Well, the Gladiator will most certainly shut off while not in park (I've done it more than once while trying to get used to the automatic!) but it gets angry when you do.
