Glove Box Lock

I'm finally getting around to fixing this issue. Last October someone tried to break into my glove box at a race I was at and broke the latch off my glove box. I had nothing of importance in it so I haven't really messed with it but found a replacement for $100 on eBay so I decided to get the job done. My question is, will any Jeep Gladiator key open these things or are they keyed specific to the jeep they are in. I have heard both responses from people when asking around so I figured I'd ask the question here and see what response I get. Any help would be appreciated.

They are keyed to your specific key. I believe you can order a key specific lock form your dealer based on your VIN. You can also get a cylinder lock that you can key to your vehicle key. Can ask @AllMoparParts.com for the correct part number.

This one is used so I guess I'd have to use the vin it came off correct to get a key for it. Someone who has 2 different JL wranglers told me that both keys they have will open either one of theirs. I didn't see it in person though

Anyone know if you can just swap out the lock on the glove box. I was under the impression you had to order the whole glove box, that the lock and glove box are one unit together.

The lock on my new 20 JT fell out the first time I tried to use it. I’m pretty sure you can swap them.

Good to know. I'm going to see if I can get a key made for the one I bought off eBay or see if a locksmith can do it I guess.

I don't know if you can have it rekeyed. Talk to a locksmith. I do know you can get a new lock that comes with the parts and pieces to enable you to do it yourself.

A good locksmith may be able to pick the existing lock and re-code it granted they will need to have the tumblers on hand. If not this new one includes everything required and can be coded to match your existing key.

Awesome man, I'll probably just order the new one. I'll look up maybe how to do it and if it's to hard then I'll see if I can find locksmith to do it cheap.

If it's like the gas cap lock, they're not too difficult. I watched a video and then did mine.
