I forgot to ask you… I’ll be buying the same grommet you used, but does that original firewall plug knock out or unscrew? I haven’t gotten around to installing just yet, but plan to do so in a week or so.

It is a quarter turn (or maybe half turn) plastic hole plug that you can remove from the inside.

My 24 Rubicon's engine bay firewall plug pulled from the engine bay, not from the cab.
That is interesting. I remember dropping mine onto the floor as I turned it and wiggled it out. Came out pretty easy though.

Hmmm, mine had the little twist tabs in the bay. I'm just happy I didn't have to drill though or poke through the wall like I did on my Tacoma.

I’ll give that a try.

Looks like @GlennBeck 's plug was installed correctly from the engine bay side. There is a rubber lip around the out perimeter of the plug that should seal up against the firewall. Mine must not have been installed correctly.

I run a 50w Motorola GMRS in my jeep, and I have a handheld for out of jeep work

Those knobs on mine are on the firewall side. Thank you for posting the picture., Jeepmonster. Much appreciated.

Depending on the radio. I mounted the radio on the molle panels in the center to the JTM, ran the wires across the top of molle and down the passenger A pillar, there is a valley under the weather strip and to the battery. I ran the antenna wire down the driver A pillar to the antenna.

I just installed a QYT KT-5000 in my Gladiator. This radio has the remote head but the microphone connects to the main unit instead of the remote head, so it looks much cleaner with no cables hanging over the dashboard.

The main body of the radio is mounted on the left side of the driver side floorboard. There are holes already in place that allowed this to be a no-drill installation.

The antenna is a dual-band antenna that is mounted to the trail rail, then the cable is ran along the running board up to the drain hole in the drivers side floorboard, then ran along the left edge of the floor mat and up to the radio.

The radio is a little quiet at speed so an external speaker will be added once I get a hold of a TRRS male connector to connect with.

A CAT5 extension cable is also on the way to get the microphone plug up to the center console instead of the floorboard. It is usable where it is, but I would like to have it stashed in the console when not in use.

You automatic guys have all the luck....manual jeep owners don't have that plug.
