Not in a rock quarry, but in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, we have lots of caleche roads (gravel). This means rocks get in the threads of tires and come out once the vehicles are on the highways. If you don’t get hit by one of those rocks, they will generally land on the roadway to be picked up and thrown by the tires of other vehicles.

Now, that’s funny as hell!
👍You’re welcome. I’m convinced that it’s a coordinated effort to attack enmasse. And I do think the technical term is a flock of rocks right?🫢 Ya have to keep an eye out even for those lone pebbles and never take any of them for “granite”!

What I hate is when they decide to tar and chip a road. If driving on the road right after being done. Is like getting sandblasted with gravel.

I had countless windshields replaced when I was commuting in my Mini Cooper. I learned to stay WAY back of any dump or cement truck!
I got a few chips in the 2022 Gladiator's windshield the first year but not a single one since the 3+ inch lift went on. I do seem to catch a lot of rocks with my grill!
I'm thinking taller is better for windshields! 🤪

I ordered my 2022 Sports S Max-Tow with the Gorilla Glass windshield and so far I've been happy with it. Haven't needed to replace it yet, and have no current cracks or chips. The Gladiator gets towed behind a big bus type motorhome and it has been offroaded some. So far I'm pleased with the results.

And up here in Valhalla (read: Alaska) they don't use salt on the roads in the winter time. They use river rock gravel, which stays in place after everything melts. There's actually a state law that says that if your trucks' fender is more than 12 inches off the ground, then you are required to run mud flaps. Some people don't and they get the tickets that they deserve.
Look up the word "Oosik", and you'll understand why it applies to them.

Hell, not having a crack or split in your windshield is usually a sign that you aren't from here, or at least you're new. Having an "Alaska Windshield" is the norm, although it is getting slowly better.

I've been lucky in the fact that I'm still on my first windshield.

I believe that I cracked my own windshield. 4" lift with a shorty bumper, with MT tires. I believe that the driver's front tire picked up a rock and threw it forward of the Jeep. Vehicle speed was about 55 mph. The rock traveled not hitting anything. The wind caused it to arc upwards, and I drove right in to it. There was not another vehicle around when it happened.

Got my first crack after 10 months. The rock hit the night before the crack appeared. We were leaving a baseball game and were parked in a gravel lot. Car in from slung the rock. We heard it but never saw where it hit. Next day leaving BJs, I saw the crack.

I‘m on windshield #6 with over 107,000 miles on 2022 JTWillys, with one of them a Gorilla windshield that on lasted 2 months! About 3 windshields ago I installed windshield protection and it lasted about 8 months when a rock hit at the top edge of the windshield where the protective covering did not cover. Installed that Exoshield per the instructions. Damn unlucky for me!

All Jeeps with a flat facing windshield are all prone to this unfortunate design. I live in AZ and no matter where, when, or what, a rock has my windshield’s number.……..Oh, I almost forgot to add the cumulative pitting of the windshield from tiny fricking little rocks and sand making sunsets and sunrises glare out my view…….Yup, it’s a Jeep thing………..
