it's insane what things cost to repair. This rear end hit was $15k. Battery/frame wasn't damaged at all either.

EVs can take a hell of a hit though - the car that rear ended my wife was destroyed. Smashed in all the way to the windshield.

My experience is the same with the JT. In a collision the other car makes up the majority of the crumple zone.

I juat went back and walked the scene. From point of impact, the other car went another 400ft off the road into the brush and smacked some trees. I laid out the scenario into Grok AI and the estimated speed at impact was 105-115 mph.

So after I walked the scene and plotted the GPS coordinates of the initial skid mark and where the car came to a stop, its 213 yards.
Given the damage to the frame and the distance traveled after impact, the estimated values come in at a 65mph differential on impact. This put the car which I now know is a Genesis G90 at around 130mph when he hit me.

I was going to write a response saying its totaled, I lost my Tundra in the same way. Except, Texas is one of the worst states for totaling a vehicle.

My Tundra unsurprisingly ended up in Texas after it was auctioned off, because its much easier to acquire a title for a vehicle of that condition there. Last I knew, which was a few years back, Texas was one if not the only state with a threshold for total loss of 100% of the market value. Repairs would have to be north of 25-30K just spit balling based off the year and trim you have. Labor is expensive, but used parts help with that.

I'd consider a lawyer, I mean that genuinely. I've dealt with these things before, more than once, repairs will be done with used parts to trim cost, and getting someone in the way will help prevent that. All of that will be part of subrogation between your provider and the at fault party, which may help grease the wheels toward a total loss. I wish you the best in terms of recovery and outcome, take your time and be patient. This sort of occurrence should not be settled lightly if you know what I mean.

State of Texas insurance code sections 1952.301 and 302 bar any insurance company from limiting your choice of where you get your vehicle repaired, or from specifying used parts for those repairs. So even in Texas you can take your vehicle wherever you want regardless of where the insurance company would prefer, and you have legal protection regarding the parts that are used.
