You're going to love it, the only thing that might turn you off is that porting is a bit concussive when shooting it. Especially indoors. Once you get used to it, you don't even notice it anymore.

The prodigy will probably shoot a bit smoother just because it's based off the 1911 platform, and that's just generally a buttery smooth system.

Well I don't really notice much difference in accuracy across most factory ammo. I just like the recoil impulse with 115 grain. That's not +P power but it's a fast moving round. The dot is predictable and settles back on target quickly with my gun.

I do bulk orders of this stuff from target sports (I'm an ammo+ member so it usually ends up being the best price):
1759108209066-t2.webp

but I'll also shoot CCI Blazer Brass 124 or 115 grain if they don't have the S&B.

For defensive ammo, my preference is for Speer Gold Dot 115gr personal protection since it shoots just like my training ammo.

I did a some testing on ported handguns in the past and learned that not all porting works the same so you'll really want to test yours. You can read about my experience here if you want.
Thanks!
I know its probably ā€˜proprietary’ information - but I wish the factory ammo listed how many grains & type of powder they use, so the hubs could compare his reloads. The husband gets extremely scientific with his reloads (and including his brass load count), tracking everything including velocity tests.

We shoot probably 200-300 rounds each every weeked. Although, I don’t know the brand (off the top of my head)…. We do use factory self defense rounds.

The Prodigy is a heavier gun and has a pretty large port …. I know the Competitor has several (very small) ports. Excited to get it…. It’ll be sooo much better than the Shield even if it wasn’t ported. It’ll be something to get used to for sure…. I’m hoping it goes well without any issues. Seems….we’ve had issues with a couple of our guns (2 different Caniks, and that Walther). The Shield & the hubbys Sig P365x have been flawless (2,000+ rounds thru them). Crossing fingers…I get another flawless one!!

I gotta figure out a dry-fire game plan for the winter…..šŸ˜†

When I was shooting USPSA
I got into reloading to save money.
It did not take long
to begin to enjoy reloading
for its own sake.

I gave all my reloading stuff,
a Dillon Progressive for handguns,
an RCBS Rock Chucker for rifle,
brass vibrator tumbler
and a lot of brass and so forth,
to a favored nephew.

My father reloads but I don't have the time and patience so I just buy stuff in bulk.

I think there's a point of diminishing return on ports so a massive port might not work as good as some properly placed porting. I found that out when comparing 7 ports to 10 ports.. The 10 ports didn't feel drastically different than the 7 ports.

I don't shoot as often as you do, and I take breaks in the hottest months but usually I shoot between 750-1000 rounds in a day twice per month. It's a lot of fun on a private range when you can move and train with the SWAT/LEO teams who are always using the range.

I trained with some competition guys a few times and that was fun too, but I gravitate more towards the tactical and self-defense training.

I’m jealous ….. of all the people who have private land, private ranges, and miles and miles of nothingness and no other people in site. And all the videos I watch of people having tons & tons of steal targets setup.

I’d love to take a mini vacation somewhere to one of those HUGE shooting ranges, but I’d have no idea where to start. The Cardinal Center is on my radar…..

We both took an Advanced Pistol class here locally at our gun club. The instructors had a long list of military & police background. That was neat….
A class of 13 people …mostly law enforcement dudes….with big biceps. šŸ˜† They were really cool and accepting of us civilians with little guns. ☺

I’d do it again…but with a bigger gun next time. 😁

Well you can shoot on this private range with GCS Training Group but it's probably pretty far away.

You can setup your own targets on BLM land and shoot as long as you clean up the brass and follow the rules for the area you're in.

BLM shooting rules usually consist of being a certain distance from roads, water, and buildings.

My husband enjoys it……. I load the primer tubes for him, perform plunk tests on all the rounds, and mark the base of the brass with colored sharpies. He has a method.šŸ˜‰

He recently upgraded from a smaller Dillon to the 750 with all the bells & whistles - although, its still a hand crank. He has all the dies for 9mm, 45, and a couple rifle loads. He still has his old reloader for shot gun rounds. 😁

On any given weekend, we can be seen picking up all our own brass, as well as all the brass from others. You can never have too much brass!!! šŸ˜†

Yea…. BLMā€˜s exist around here in PA - within the PA State Game lands. I don’t know the details, but someone we know signed up to use it. He hasn’t gone yet….but I’m curious to know what his experiences would be.

Honestly? And maybe I’m making assumptions….but those areas seem like a ā€˜free for all’. The last thing I wanna do, is go somewhere with a bunch of buttheads blasting shit up with no regards to safety. Our gun club installed cameras on all the ranges because of ā€˜sketchy’ things….and they’ve caught folks!!

I'm not sure about everywhere but in my area, you don't need to go to designated shooting areas on BLM land. You can just go out anywhere that's away from roads, water ways, and buildings. Also can't shoot during fire bans... but otherwise just exercise normal safety and shoot against a good backstop.

I don't know if those rules are regional or not.

šŸ˜‚ ....that'd be a free-for-all around here. They'd be shooting up trees, animals, the sky......

I had to look it up... Here in PA - things are more structured. They have designated 'ranges' - or Public Shooting Ranges located in the State Game lands. You have to possess a PA Hunting license or buy a permit to shoot there. Looks similar to any 'gun club' ....where they have built backstops, shooting benches, places to hang targets at various distances, etc. Rules apply and you can get fined if you're caught doing something stupid. And actually...some of our State Game Lands are closed to the public. YOu can't even drive in it without a hunting license or permit.

State game lands is for non motorized travel. Meaning you hike in and out. The game lands behind Dunbar Pa. has nice 100 yard range.

Our gun club has 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, and 300 yard shooting. Plus pistol and shotgun.

We host the 22 NRL matches on the last Sunday of the month. Every Thursday, we have league shoots. That varies every month.

Our club also has upwards of 300 yards … We love the pistol pits (15 yards max between concrete walls). They have various events, all are open to the public. Between Trap, Cowboy Action, Practical Pistol, Appleseed (I’m not exactly sure what that is yet), and others…. We’ve been extremely active with them since we joined in April. For us… it’s a place to do some pew pewing…but it’s been fun meeting & getting to know the folks/members. The older retired folks are always excited to share their stories….. There’s a lot to be learned from them. ☺

I am blessed to have land
for a pistol and rifle range.

The pistol range has two plates at 10 yards,
a half silhouette at 20 yards
and a full silhouette at 40 yards.

The latter is for the Eli Dicken Challenge.
A young man you may recall
who used his Glock
to neutralize a shooter
armed with an AR-15
in Greenwood Park Mall, Indiana
July 27, 2022,
firing 10 shots from his Glock
in 15 seconds
hitting the dirtbag 8 times
saving many lives.
Score one for armed citizens.

The rifle range has a paper sighting target
at 25 meters (about 1000" for old timers)
a paper target stand at 100 yards
and steel plates at 200, 300 and 400 yards
of 8, 12 and 16 inches in diameter,
equivalent to four minutes of angle.

When my children and grandchildren visit
we make a point of dinging some steel.

We have a few outdoor shooting ranges within reasonable driver here. Most belong to the state. A couple nice indoor ones, too.

My buddy has several acres available to him where we can stretch out to around 250 yards before we run out of space.

Suppressors make it nice. With those it opens up a few more opportunities for us, especially when playing with 22s. We have a few locations with closer neighbors but safe backdrops and allows us not to bother anyone.

Speaking of guns - I threw this little kit under the backseat last weekend. Impromptu shooting session? Wanna check a pond for fish? I'm ready šŸ˜„ Rossi RB22 and a Dock Runner. The Vortex red dot on the Rossi is worth five times the rifle :CWL: But it was just laying around.
