Typically the dealership wouldn't collect the sales tax and you would pay it when you register it in your home state.

Same here. Jeep Chat says I am in JB status (bed liner, cover and side steps install). No telling how long that will take.

Sweet! Just did the chat and they said mine has also been built and is also currently awaiting installation of additional equipment.

I asked about how long that typically takes and she said a couple weeks on average. No dealer ETA as of now.

I’ve purchased and leased about 10 cars out of state. Either way you pay your states tax rate. We pay 6% here in KY, so if you purchased a car in Chicago and the rate was 10%, you’d still only pay your states sales tax rate.

My experience is the dealer usually collects the tax and such for your home state when doing a loan.

With a lease you pay sales tax monthly and that would be figured into the lease.

Paying cash, I’ve come back to my home state and paid the sales tax at the DMV.

Only hassle with KY is you have to get a sherif inspection for all out of state cars. Even a brand new car. They just check your wipers, lights etc. The inspection is only like $5 bucks and takes like 2 mins but it’s just a bit of a hassle.

Hi, first post here. I have purchased two brand new vehicles out of state where my residence is in CA. It may vary by state on how the tax is done. My two experiences were..

Colorado: Bought my wife an new Outback in CO, they had me pay CA sales tax plus a temp registration so the car could be put on a flatbed and towed out of state to me. They then sent a check with the tax amount to your CA DMV station. I received a letter to pick up/complete registration on an appointment date they gave and all I had to do is show a CA smog certificate.

Nevada: Bought another new car out of Carson City and they had me pay sales tax there, which may have been different since I drove the car home. At the DMV I had to show proof of CA smog certificate, person comes out, checks the VIN, working lights, horn and gives me a pass. I go back inside and then paid the difference from NV sales tax which was 6 something to my county tax where I reside 7.75.

Not painful and in each scenario I saved than buying local. Some dealers here in CA think they are selling gold.

I have one built awaiting shipping to Gupton, I hope to pickup in the next 2 weeks. There's several others that ordered within the same window, so very soon you'll see a bunch of reviews of Gupton. From everything I've read on them and experienced up to this point, it's been extremely positive and I don't expect anything less during the purchasing transaction. But we'll see.

Ill have to check how Ohio sales tax is collected/If credit is given for the out of state purchase
