Has the JT and JLs for 2021 been impacted by the chip or other shortages every other mfg. is crying about?? Maybe I am not logging on to this site enough ( dailey) but am I missing something??
Like most manufacturers, Jeep is prioritizing the money models. That's why it was such big news when Ford stopped or slowed F150 production a month or two ago. It's a sizable portion of their revenue, and shutting that line down is the most expensive thing they can do in response to the chip shortage. It was seen as an indicator of just how bad the shortage is.
The Wrangler is THE money model for Stellantis in the US portfolio. Nothing else comes close. So the effects will be felt, but the JL will be the last to feel it. JTs are built on the same line and use the same potentially affected parts. I haven't seen the sales figures, but I think it's pretty safe to say the JT sales are substantially less than JL sales. They will hold out on that line and make as many vehicles as they can, but there may be a shift in line allocation toward the JL (and likely already has been) if things get too tight. If a car is sold, they'll almost certainly give it a slot (the profit is baked in and certain), but there would be less on lots. Speaking somewhat speculatively, if you special order through the normal route (where your name is on the Monroney), you will likely continue to see the relatively short build times. If, however, your dealer sucks and they order your vehicle as if it were regular lot inventory, it will be more likely likely to be deprioritized and take longer. Shortages among secondary and tertiary suppliers add another, but unrelated complication to that (i.e. the bedliner delays a few months back).
TLDR; Yes, but in a more subtle/nuanced way than some makes/models.
Of course they are, just look at local dealers. Our closest 2 CDJR dealers only have maybe 2 new Wranglers and Gladiators each, when they usually have 15+.
It's been in the news and the so-called automotive web sites, etc.
Grand Cherokee was reported as taking the biggest hit according to a couple of lamestream news outlets.
Something like this - simply look for automotive news. If it's impacted, it's been reported about.
I know we were going to order but we couldn’t get what we wanted due to the shortage. We ended up buying off the lot but honestly I’m fine with that.
Our dealer did say new Jeep’s were coming in with only one key fob now due to the shortage. Said you’d get an “IOU” from Jeep for another when supply catches up. Not sure if anybody else has seen that. We got two fobs with ours but as I stated we bought from inventory.
