Help me describe new problems to service consultant

I’ve begun noticing 2 new problems. They don’t happen regularly enough that I’ll be able to demonstrate them.

The first occurs when driving on a bumpy surface at highway speed. The wheels wobble as you’d expect on a bumpy surface, but the wobble doesn’t stop even after getting to smooth road. The wobble isn’t horribly violent, but it ain’t good Slowing down makes it go away. It doesn’t happen on every bump, so it would be hard to demonstrate. It reminds me of what would happen in my old car when the steering damper failed, but I don’t know if modern cars even have steering dampers.

The second issue is a little simpler, but similarly un-repeatable.

Sometimes after pulling away from a stop when the engine has auto shut off, it doesn’t always re-start right away when depressing the clutch pedal.

Are either of these known problems? Any suggestions on how to describe them so the service consultant doesn’t say “if we can’t repeat it, we can’t fix it”

Verify your shifter is centered and not pulled to the side. It should start right away.

Not yet. Your loose components haven't finished killing the factory stabilizer quite yet.

Another minor thing that could be the cause is out of balance tires. But don't rule out the loose components that cause death wobble.

How old, how many miles?

The suspension needs checked for loose and worn components. The fasteners need torqued to factory specifications. The balance on the tires needs checked.

The Service department won't do anything if there are no codes to read, and if they cannot duplicate the problem. The standard response for your complaint is to replace the steering stabilizer.

The ESS issues, with a manual transmission, could be anything from a weak battery to a failing sensor. The only time I let ESS operate is when I forget to hit the button to turn it off.

I just recently took my 2020 Jeep Gladiator Overland into the dealer as I needed to get a newly found small "death wobble" issue figured out at only 23808 miles that just started when hitting a bump out on the interstate going 70 mph. That particular bump wasn't all that bad and neither was the wobble in my steering, but it was definitely noticeable. At speeds less than 70 mph I didn't notice any wobble. Thankfully the stabilizer was replaced under the extended 8-year warrant due to the numerous death wobble issues Jeep people have, so that was free. When I asked the tech from the dealership about it he said he took my Jeep on a test drive out on the interstate at a place where he had tested previous Jeeps with that complaint and he stated my Jeep wobbled like a "bi***". Also, I read on this forum that while it may not be all that bad at first the wobble will only get worse. I don't think you want to wait until it gets worse to do something about it. I had no off-road use either.

Besides unbalanced tires, they may be under-inflated. Under-inflation causes the same wobble and stops after slowing down. Everything could be going good at speed, hit a bump and that starts the cycle. This is also the number 1 cause of Harley death wobble.

Sounds like we should yearly lift the front up and re-torque a bunch of bolts just in case.

Death wobble doesn’t stop until you are close to stopping, and violently shakes the rig… if you don’t come close to having to change your shorts, it not death wobble.

OP, you need to have the tires checked for balance, they are the cause for a wobble most of the time.

Next would be a dry steering check. With engine off, crawl in front, and have a helper shake the steering wheel had back and forth, look at all the joints and see if anything moves that shouldn’t, or moves excessivel.
