As the current Ukraine conflict has taught us (at least I hope we are paying attention), the threat of drones negates the open air vehicle concept. Not sure a M1151 uparmored HMMV will be safe anymore.
It has taught everyone to roll a round in a busted up Toyota Corolla on 2 and a half tires with 3 other weirdos that speak 4 different languages but not yours, but make up for it by carrying 5 times as much Wishibaba-sourced firepower than a regular infantry squad....
It'll be fun they said, it'll be fine they said...

@ShrimpHappens: Send me, I'll go XD

The JT's GVWR was prolly reached right before they started bolting the seats onto the tray, good luck with the US Roast Guard all mounted up with 30+ (big)mags each and Z-E-R-O Intention of ever getting off:fingerscrossed:

The customer they think they are marketing to is not looking for that.

I can see something like that running around a exotic game ranch in Texas on a canned hunt but nothing beyond that.

The 1151s were in limited use for many in 08/09 Iraq, I had 2 Cayman MRAP's and one 1151 that one was more limiting than the MRAP'S but the angle of back deck did deflect a hand grenade off better than the flat top MRAP will. Fortunately, it wasn't a frag but anti armour grenade skipped off detonated on road. In 03-04 speed and random action worked my unit then was running around Iraq in 1025s & 1026 no armour.
In Desert Storm Delta and other S.F. were running around in FAV's (the dune buggies) they were kinda neat in late 80s but big Army took them from some units and my unit's motorcycles.

The more things change the more stays the same old tactics come back around. Wide dispersed and camouflage are needed.

2004- Kuwait Blue man group welding plate steel onto 1025 doors
2004- Received one of the first 1114's, light armor and a/c
2008/9 - Used 1151's and Toyota Hi-Lux depending on threat level
2012/13 - Armored Chevy Tahoe
2017/18 - Had everything available at the time, 1151's, MRAP's, Razors, some funky middle seat driver dune buggy, and a no property book Toyota Land Cruiser Ambulance (5-speed diesel with 150 miles)

05- Fallujah, we were welding on and fabricating brackets to hold HillBilly Armor plates to HMMWVs, MTVRs/Armadillos, and commercial grade tractors, Intertrationals and Freightliners.
The Marines were gracious enough to give us 6 new armored HMMWVs to split amongst 3 Convoy Security Teams. We used Kevlar blankets on the floorboards and screwed Kevlar plates to the interior panels of our old trucks. The trucks were death traps, the weight of the armor destroyed locks and hinges, so we fabricated barrel locks and used bungees to keep the doors shut.
All this and the Army and Marines would ask us to run Convoy Security Missions all across Al Anvar province for them. Fallujah, TQ, Ramadi, Al Asad, Al Qaim, BIAP, Blue Diamond, Haaditha Dam... Good times. We managed to bring everyone home.

Seabees. "We build, We Fight!"

Fall 2012-Spring 13. Helmand Province Camp Leatherneck/Bastion
That was different... we had everything that was Armored. We ran all over Hemland and eventually ran convoys across Afghanistan. Again, we supported everybody. When they called, we answered.

2013-14. DJ we had multiple options in Eastern Africa, Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Uganda, and Yemen, SOCFWD-EA (aka SOCCE). But primarily Toyotas.
