2020 Gladiator Overland, 3.6 Pentastar, ~46k
Drove 4.5 miles to the store and my Jeep spewed about 5 gal of gas all over its underside and down the road...
Began driving vehicle on short trip to the store with over 1/4 tank of fuel. Began to smell of fuel inside and noticed that when accelerating from a stop vehicle would hesitate and stutter. Halfway through trip noticed that vehicle had only 1/8 tank of fuel left and light came on. Pulled into parking lot at destination, shut vehicle off near empty and noticed trail of gasoline behind vehicle and pooling fuel below. Observed underneath that fuel had been spraying at a high pressure from the top of the fuel tank (exact source not visible) all over the underside and all over the exhaust system, pooling in the skid plates and all cavities underneath. The vehicle would not restart for tow operator.
Dealership says that the 'fuel line came off'. $100 for a new fuel line and $700 labor to replace it. I don't feel comfortable with their nonchalant attitude. This seems like a big issue.. Could have been a fire! I'm seeing that there is a pending recall for this issue on some Jeeps and Rams but it seems its for diesel engines only. I've also seen some posts on the JL forums about this but nothing here.. Seems like there should be a larger TSB or recall as this is a significant safety issue. Anyone else experience this? I'm baffled, and the stealership is being light on details to me....
I have not gotten the vehicle back yet (this happened last Friday night, how convenient), but I will be asking to see the old fuel line and hopefully get some more info from the dealership when I get it back today or tomorrow.
