They are looking not bad.

But I am not sure if they really make sense, at least for me.

If the car is locked and someone tries to open the hood the alarm is setting off.
And if the thief is bold enough to continue after the alarm started he would also break the lock to achieve his goal. Maybe with some more damage to the car.

I had considered these as well, but there were two reasons why I decided against it.
One: It doesn't use the factory key.
Two: It makes two additional points of failure that if either failed would make it very difficult to get into the engine compartment.
The bolt lock works well, only one additional point of failure and uses the factory key. It's much more expensive though, so I can understand the tradeoff being worth it for some folks. I've just had a few bad experiences with locks like these failing and don't want to risk it.

I like the Bolt hood lock better and it keys to your fob key. How easy is this stuff to lock pick? How's that gonna work when it's full of frozen precipitation and salt, or sand and mud? At least the Bolt lock has a keyway cover. Pay more , get more. Install is nearly as easy-two heavy rivets in pre existing holes.

Yes, the Bolt hood lock requires a subtle hole in your grill, but that's all black on black. I hardly even notice, and I feel confident that the center hood lock will send the thieves on to somewhere else.

Ok… so I ordered a set from Amazon. They look like OEM and are decently heavier than the factory hinges.

It is litterally (2) bolts to remove the top 10mm

Bottom hinge is a 13mm (i think) single bolt.

Takes less than 5 mins to complete and is TOTALLY WORTH IT!

Cost is -$38.

Most Oem look I’ve seen. I have the bolt lock, but those look great.

I hear the concerns of rust etc…. I coated my internal soring and lock with dry film lubricant. Maybe it helps a little. If in a few months i see theres and issue…well ..$38 is cheap to replace or i will go a different direction. For the time being its just another layer of protection.

I have had these installed for about 2 years now with no problems. I also found that the guts of the locking latches where sub par to the factory latches so I swapped the internal parts from the factory latches to the locking ones . If you look at both side by side you can see what I am referring to .

I had a set of those for a while but didn’t like the latch being flimsy. It also made it hard to open with one person due to the latch always springing back to the hood side catch whenever I tried to open the hood. I found a set of these on Amazon and they are excellent. Heavy, durable and they stay away from the hood side catch when opening the hood.

No one said they did - however, as discussed ad nauseam in other threads, it's one way they've accessed things in at least some cases.
It's also a great deterrent for those looking to steal batteries - that's actually a thing. You can get 5 bucks by taking in a battery to almost any parts store, not to mention for your own use, selling them otherwise, whatever.

There's been cases talked about here over the last 2 or 3 years where a hood was opened in the process of a theft......... unless we were there, we'll never know why.

Park in some areas - your vehicle will be there, but tires, battery and other stuff will be gone.

We also need to keep an eye on one forum member who may be walking around with a turkey baster and empty bottle gathering up EHPS fluid from these.
