Has anyone had experience with the hood lock system that you stick the key through the front grill to lock and unlock it? Bolt, Malker, and Furyengraver are a few of the companies selling them on Amazon. A few posts in the customer reviews mentioned that you can still slide you hand under the hood and unlatch the hood even it the hood lock is engaged. I would like to secure my hood but I don't want to buy one of these if they don't work. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have the Bolt. The only issue I had was setting the rivets - I couldn't do it with a hand riveter. I ended up having a shop do that part.

Only have experience with the BOLT. There's no way you can slip a hand under to unlock. Or anywhere really. It blocks the hood latch at its most open position so nothing short of damage is going to force it.

As for installing the rivets, yea it's not a hand riveter job. I had to buy a new 13" riveter (the one I had on hand was 3-4")

Great, thanks, that's what I wanted to know if you can slip your hand under the hood and unlock the latch. One of the reviews online a guy was doing it with the front grill off so I think that is why he was able to do it.

Yeah I would probably just use some bolts to attach it, I have enough tools I never use already, don't need anymore.

Even with the front grill off, if it's installed properly you're not opening the hood without breaking something.

That being said, they didn't use rivets by accident or to annoy installers. They did it because bolts could be undone by potential thieves.

Installed the Rugged Ridge Locking Hood Catch Set - 11210.32 from Four Wheel Parts. Fits okay, I still have adjust the height for each side so it will release better. Like this method better than putting a hood lock on the front grill.
