My Jeep is currently at 1200 miles. Just trying to get an idea on when I should change my oil.

3k? or 5k? or more

With the oil they recommend, 3-5k is too frequent and a waste of money. I do mine when it tells me to. Usually around 8k miles.

10k is max.
5 is too frequent unless you operate in dirty or high heat conditions.
Oils break down with high heat.
About 8 will be ok for me unless i tow, then I might do a bit sooner. Don't go over a year due to environmental conditions, though. That's been my way for since I owned my first car at 14.
I base my choices on experience and training.

I got my Jeep in 2021 which comes with the "Wave program".

They perform the first (of three) complimentary services at 10k.

First at 3-5k just because. Then once per year which in my case will be about 6-8k miles. Will be using Mobil 1 0w20 Extended performance ($9.95/5 quarts at walmart with the current mail-in rebate).

I do every 7-7,500 miles for full synthetic, except the first one I did 3k. I do them myself. 8 months old and only 3600 miles on mine.

There are two questions:

1) When do you have to ?: Change it when the truck tells you it needs a change ... The engineers have calculated this and unless you have an extreme service workload, it is likely fine ...

2) When would I ?: Well, I changed mine at 3,000 because I was leaving on a long trip. I would have changed it anyways ... And then I put in really good oil (Not an amsoil guy but other high quality synthetic oil or the recommended spec). And then I watch the usage meter and I change when it gets down to around 25% life ... Why not 0% ? Well because id like to err on the side of caution, its rather inexpensive, It gets me into the garage, there is beer in the garage, there are motorcycles in the garage, there is no estrogen in the garage, and above all, it stops the voices in my head who yell at me when I go over 3000 between changes ...

An hour under the Jeep is an hour NOT SPENT doing yardwork ... Plus I look busy ... Sometimes I just lay under there with a beer and cuss once an hour or so for effect ... Keeps the honeydoo list short ...

Doesn't help with my Honey-Do list.

Mine caught on ......she thought it was odd that I was laying under the new jeep with only 1,000 miles on it.... LOL. Doesn't work as good as it would with my 20 year old F-250 with massive electrical issues.

Agreed, makes it easy. of course so does the gauge on oil percentage
Never trusted it on my last car, still not a fan now. Too many sensors can fail as is, and I donā€™t want my response to a blown engine to be ā€œwell, come to think of it I canā€™t recall my last oil change...but the gauge says itā€™s good!ā€
Plus I just never pay much attention to it in general anyway.

So every 5k is easy for me šŸ˜„
