I am considering removing the Rubicon letters to just have a cleaner, more stealthy look to my Gladiator. What is the best way to do this, what equipment do I need, and how much of a pain in the arse is it do without damaging the finish?

I would think a steam cleaner would do the trick.

Try a hair dryer first…..then try a heat gun but be careful….. Heat guns can get frickin hot and if you apply it too long, you could toast your paint/surface.

If all else fails…you can get vinyl ‘erasers’ that you use with your drill.

What year and color is your Jeep?
Is it garaged kept or left outside?

You may see ghosting.

Its pretty simple. Heat gun and then peel. Then use denatured alcohol to clean off any residue. I ran this look for a while. I didn't like it. Made it look like a sport model or looked "naked". I have since added a Rubicon lettering.

Yep. Heat gun and patience. Dont roast your paint. And definitely denatured alcohol to remove any residue and stop any ghosting from leftover adhesive.

You COULD use a 3M adhesive remover wheel, but theres always a chance it will damage your paintjob.

I removed my Mojave sticker about month ago (in a warmed garage. Dont do any of this under 40F). It came out rather well.

3M Adhesive Remover spray is another option for removing the residue. Works great.

As @Janster mentioned, be careful with heat guns. They work very well for what they are designed to do but you don't need too much heat to quickly soften the decals.

As mentioned, start with a hair dryer and then a heat gun if needed. Just hold the heat gun far enough away not to have boiled paint with a plastic smell.

Personally, once you peel it off, or probably in several pieces, I have found Goo Gone to work well in getting the leftover glue off and then a good rinsing to get rid of the Goo Gone.

I also was thinking about taking the Rubicon decal off of one side and putting on a Mojave decal in its place. It might be funny to confuse people into thinking I have two different vehicles when I pass by their houses driving in different directions!

You could also have some fun by taking the Rubicon decals off the Gladiator and putting on Sahara or High Tide decals in their place.

If you try the 3M adhesive remover spray, you probably won’t use Goo Gone again. I previously said it works great. Instead should’ve said works amazing.

Thanks. Will definitely try it. I took the little dealer decal immediately off my JTR when I purchased it but while the decal came off easily, there is still some traces of the goo/glue/snot or whatever that remains on the tailgate even after nearly a year. I will try the 3M stuff.

Heat gun and they peel right off.
I used a heat gun on the lowest setting - doesn’t need much heat at All. A hair dryer might work. Letters came off very easy.

^^This

This was the first mod I did when I got my truck home. Didn’t want to wait and get ghosting. Low heat with a heat gun, go off, apply a good coat of wax.
