How to Protect Against Paint Chips on Door Hinges?

Is there anything you can do to protect the paint on your door hinges? I have mud flaps on my gladiator and I haven't been off road. So, the chips are just from normal driving. I am interested in anything anyone has done to keep the door hinges looking nice.

I mean it IS a Jeep, this is normal...

However many have placed 3M protective film over them. Seems to be the simplest way.

My concern is rust without the paint protection.

I bought inexpensive, easily replaceable hinge covers, prior to the damage starting.

The ACE Engineering rocksliders have completely stopped the gravel chipping my hinges.

You can just plastidip them and touch up as needed.

Those chips are a lot more noticeable on a Hydroblue.

The ACE Engineering rocksliders have completely stopped the gravel chipping my hinges.

I have bad luck then. I have the rock sliders as well.

I used these plastic door hinge covers found on Amazon and then I Plasti-Dipped them to give them more of a matte look. Saves the hinges from chips and helped break up all the red.

Any prep work required for the Plasti-Dip? Just a wipe, or did you scuff them a little? The ones I have are gloss, and would be the only gloss on the truck. Nice work!

Thanks but I'm sure I borrowed the idea from here or the JL forum.

Yes, I scuffed them with a green pad then hit them with the rattle can of dip prolly 4-5 coats if memory serves..

OH.. I did peal off all the double sided tape that came with them and added official 3m auto tape from the auto store to ensure that nothing fell off due to crappy adhesive.

Thank you Sir, prior to install, gonna follow your lead. I plasti-dipped some trailer hubcaps, to try to get them close to the Overland rims. The had been used, and were a little beat up. I wet sanded them with 600 grit and dish soap, and they seem to be holding up. The hinges are smooth and new. Thanks for the tip!

Ouch!! After seeing this, I made some PPF hinge protectors for mine. At least it will help some. I had already done the rest of the truck... overkill, I know, but that is what we do at my shop, lots of tint and PPF.
