Okay, got it. That damn tab was just insanely stubborn to the point I was convinced that there had to be another one I missed …

I hope the engineers that design those electrical connectors on our vehicles were in the layoff list.

They do take a little work. When I installed a T harness, I had to stare at the connectors for a while before I could get it apart.

They don't design them - they only use them. Likely those part numbers were available before Jeep started using them. Most of the Jeep connectors are standard connectors available from Mouser, Digikey and many other sources.
I'd bet those same connectors are somewhere on other makes and models. (and you can bet they've been on RAM trucks for years)

Whoever designs most of these whacky electrical connectors may rot in a connector hell and be forced to take them apart all day long, every day, especially the ones that have been under a truck for some years. I have such a hate/hate relationship with all of these plastic POS thingies, they have cost me so much skin over the years ...

I don't disagree with them being just plain crazy stupid - especially with the dingy latches many of these had. I mean - pull this back, depress here, pull there, but don't do this during a full moon. Why? What was wrong with the simple "depress tab, pull" method instead of these latches?
It reminds of of a door with lock boxes covering the padlock on a hasp.
Latches and levers with sliding locks - silly.
The door connector is among the worst. Why the lever then sliding locks?

The 7 Pin Trailer plug has been pretty much universal across all manufactures. No escaping that.

As to other OEM plugs, priority is ease of assembly and removal is a secondary concern. I have to give props though to Toyota because they pretty much have not changed their style of connectors in over 40 years. None of this needing geometry calculations to disconnect their plugs.

On the other hand, they also haven't really changed much of their other technology to join this century ... ;-)

Touché, but on the other hand, the other vehicle makers did not have to make it complicated for the sake of complication.

Agree on the door connector. Pretty poor design for a connector that is supposed to be used a lot. I also nominate the fog light connector on the passenger side near the bumper, and that one for the parking lights when you remove the front fenders. My song on the JL forum went similar to yours, push the red tab in, pull the red tab out, squeeze the connector, and shake it all about. EDIT, and every damned one of them is a different method to get it undone. Idiocy.

I will have to look to see what I’m misunderstanding.
You'd have to have a much more dirty mind to follow my thoughts on lubrication for these things ...

No, it really only needed a single tab depressed and then wiggled out. It was just "stuck" and felt like I might have missed another tab or so. The easiest way for me was to push it out of the bumper so I could inspect it and then it became relatively easy.
