Would having a bumper with the GM style step help instead? Might be a better mod if you don't absolutely need a full ladder like this.

I don't have one, but asked someone here when I saw his Jeep had it. I like it a lot and might get one down the road.
Nice observation, but in this case , personally, I would have to pick fashion over function.
I just don't like the way the bumper looks with the side steps.

Maybe I don't understand.
Is there a reason the tailgate is down?

At 76, 5'6" and 50 pounds overweight
I'm in better health than I deserve
but I step on the trailer hitch or bumper
and crawl over the tailgate of my JTR.

I've given up getting onto my 3/4-ton flatbed.
There is nothing to hold onto.
I need a handrail more than a ladder.
Well I bought the Rugged Ridge Hd Bumper specifically because it has the foot cutouts on the ends but then I went and put 40s on my truck and that step up to the cutouts just got a little bigger than my step up wants to do comfortably. I’m 60 and in good shape, still hauling heavy equipment with all of the heavy lifting and all but anything helps.

What about a drop down drawbar for a step?
Most trailers, at least the ones from U-Haul,
have an 18-inch tongue height.

My stock JTR would need a ball mount with a 3.5 or 4-inch drop.
Lifted Gladiators would need a deeper drop.
That would help to get onto the bumper.

I mentioned in another thread
that I sent a suggestion to Reese Towing
that they add a perpendicular hitch pin hole
so that deep drop drawbars could be mounted horizontally
to improve departure angle and provide a step.
They have not gotten back to me yet.

Trying to get it ?

Do you have any illustrations of this ?

I will take a picture.
In the meantime,
imagine putting the drawbar in the receiver
turned 90 degrees, right or left.

You can get handles, too - a handle that slips into the striker. It's a heck of a lot handier than a folding stool that is still going to make you stretch between the stool and a high tailgate. Ladders allow smaller increments........
Where do you get the handle?

I know a few are suggesting a step, stool, hitch step, bumper step and so on, but as I said before - you are missing what many of us need - and that is often multiple steps to get up there.
I mean, I could step on my bumper and climb in, but that's not great and such things don't work with the tailgate down.

A standard staircase rise is about 8" as I recall, and stepping higher can be a struggle for some.
Back problems, arthritis, hip or knee issues, weight, height, all sorts of things can come into play. With me, it's lack of consistent equilibrium.
Anyway, a single step just ain't gonna cut it.
Think of the height of the tailgate of a JT - and it's worse with any sort of lift at all, or with a Mojave, etc.

Take a look at a tailgate ladder - 2 to 3 steps, meaning short lifts of each leg to get up there as opposed to having to step up halfway to the tailgate with one step and then the rest of the way.

So when we talk ladders - we need ladders, not a single step.
Sorry, bumper steps, hitch steps - just not helpful. (I know people are just making suggestions trying to be helpful!)

Some day you may understand - hope that's a very very long way off for most of you, the rest of us already know..............

I occasionally need it for work, so it's always with me. I keep it in the back, with all the rest of the crap under the RSI Smartcap. It was very helpful to get me in the back of the new one to install the Teraflex Trail Rails.

Sort of figured, but then sometimes people have pointed out something that they use while it's at home - but won't help if at a store or whatever.

Not only that... if you think getting up is hard... getting down is the real challenge.

I don't have a bed cap, plus that definitely wouldn't fit under my rear seat?
But
I have the exact same thing in the house, I use it constantly.
