I currently drive a 07 Tacoma TRD Off Road (210k miles), and I’m ready for a new ride. I want a new Tacoma but Toyota won’t update the damn thing, every few years they come out with a new paint color and call it an “All New Design”. The Mojave looks very appealing but I can’t get pass the fact a base model JT cost $33,000 and a fully loaded Mojave is pushing $70,000...And they have the same powertrain. I can’t think of another vehicle that you can double the price from one trim to another and not get an upgraded powertrain…Does anyone else have a problem with this or am I being picky?

the employee pricing i guess ended, you could negotionate a pretty good deal with little effort.. Now sure what the new deals look like..
there is a thread here about ordering with a hefty discount if you wait for it to be built..
apples to apples, I see a tacoma as a base rubicon comp mid- high 40's after all is said and done.. Mojave can be built for mid 50's.. 70k better have a hemi

Well a TRD Pro runs 50k for an upgraded suspension and that’s it. A base Tacoma is around the same price when you add 4x4 with a cab. I always think it’s cheaper to buy a Sport S and upgrade. You end up saving tons of money in the long run but it is nice getting everything from the factory if that’s what you want.

Such a difference in price between base and "fully loaded" special models is not uncommon. (F150?)

You need to either special order (from a dealer that does "under invoice" pricing like Travis@Tricity) or search lots across the country for what you want.

There are some base Mohaves on lots in the 45-50 range - and the loaded up for profit models in the 60+ range on lots. I special ordered and waited, and it was worth every penny and excruciating minute of waiting.

If you don't go fully loaded, you could build something nicely optioned for $50-$55k. If you want a new powertrain and can wait a year, then 4xe and hemi may be available, but I'm sure will be greater than 70k easily, especially the hemi.

A fully loaded Mojave should only be around $60k sticker. The powertrain might be the same as a base model but the shocks are a significant upgrade and the axles are wider. Add the rear lockers and the price is understandably higher than the base JT regardless of powertrain.

What is it about the Mojave that makes you want it?

Im a toyota homer. Used them all over the world; imported my last LC76 from a deployment, and love them. And- The new Tacoma sucks...lol. I did look at them and liked the truck alot in many ways, but the motor and trans suck.

Negotiate one on the lot. I got my Mojave for 12% under sticker. My mom lives in Bel Air, MD and a dealer here has 2 on the back lot. This area is “Jeep Bro” heavy, so only the rubicons and sports sell. You could probably negotiate pretty well. I ended up getting my Mojave for the same price as a TRD Pro Tacoma since dealers don’t budge off the dealer mark up on them in NoVA, much less negotiate down.

Last time i drove by they had a blue one and a red one. Unsure what options are on it. I ended up with every option except proximity and radar cruise for $50k

It has the best ride and it comes from the factory pretty much the way I would customize it...

Mine MSRP was $60,070 and I got almost everything except leather. $53,238 +tax, tags, $899 processing.
Contact Craig Benner @Koons Jeep in Tysons for 6% under INVOICE for an absolutely trouble free deal! He is a sponsor on this forum.

And you are right, Mojave has the best ride!

I did an apples to apples comparison against a well optioned Mojave and loaded non-PRO Tacoma. My Mojave was about $61K, but got it about 4% under invoice for $54K, which was a hair under $10K more than the Tacoma. That $10K is the premium for a convertible truck. The Mojave is a way more capable truck, but perhaps that isn’t needed. For me to have a beach runner though, I wanted convertible no matter what. Mojave vs Tacoma is perhaps not the right comparison. Sport vs Tacoma is probably more accurate.

In looking online at my local dealer's prices (which probably means there's more haggling that can be done), all the Mojaves are listed around mid-50s. It's the Rubicons that are pushing low-60s.

I gave up on my TRDPro Tacoma because the drivetrain sucked and the brakes were horrendous, gladiator is light years ahead in that department with a lot more cabin space. You can get a nicely equipped Mojave for same price as Tacoma....at least here in NC.
