The 4.0L was barely sufficient on the highway in a lifted tj or XJ that weighs 3500lbs. People are on here daily complaining about the power output of the 3.6L... that makes 100hp more than that old tractor motor. Crawling it was great, on road it was underwhelming at best. I'd take the 5.7L for the mojave any day of the week. The way I use the thing high revving in the desert, the diesel just isn't the right engine. The Hurricane could be good, but the complexity is a bit much.
I concur with the above statement

3.6 & 5.7 because: Like it or not, the 3.6 is the most suitable V6 powertrain for the vehicle industry wide, & the 5.7 presents a theme appropriate upgrade. While in theory I lust for the diesel option, the emissions baggage rules them out for light utility use. A base model engine should be capable, reliable, and fit for purpose, qualities that the 3.6 exudes even if lacking excitement. While I don't think a V8 is needed, the relatively simplicity over a diesel or the hurricane is an advantage.

What i'd realy like is a simple 4 pot diesel.

The 4.0's mechanical fan was loud as heck too. You can always hear an XJ coming by the roaring 4.0 HO fan.
Yeah an efan set up would resolve that and free up a couple ponys

A s### show for options. . . Inline 6 and D.F. options with cooling ability 3rd a flex of "EV" for city dwellers / close to charge areas. Not, a turbo I-6 options sounds good for initial performance but long-term life not really with gasoline engines. Forced air works with D.F. engines running lower boost levels. Not on gasoline for long term life.
Reply after drinking and not feeling any pain. . . .;)

Ok, I'm jaded since I have 4 4.0 Jeeps and have a soft spot for inline 6 engines. That might be do to over 33 years of them. :like:
