My mom has a 4dr Jk, my wife has a 4dr JL. I wouldn't spend my money on a JK. The JL platform is so much more comfortable riding. Better at being water tight also.
My MIL has a 2015 Grand Cherokee and it's pretty comfortable, I used it as a commuter for a few day not long ago. No clue about the fuel economy of it.
The GC would make a better traveling rig. Quieter and more comfortable ride. The JLU would make a better exploring type rig.

We travel for several hours at a time in our JLURD or the JTRD. Both are doable really. A GC or similar would be a little nicer. But we like our "rugged" Jeeps.
I had a JK for six years and didnt mind it, but I'll agree the JL is more refined. Earlier JL's are in the price range too.

Tami hinted that if I got us a WK2 I'd probably never see it again cause she would drive it over the van - but if I had another Wrangler she would drive it fine but wouldn't try to take it over as her daily 😂

Well, I sold this for 25K in 2019. I believe the price would be $30K+ today.
4 people if two of them are early teens or younger.

I haven't read all the responses, but given that you loved your Camaro and are in the $20-25K range, I'd look in this direction. The Cadillac CTS Premium 3.6L. GM overengineered this car. It's luxurious and yet has some balls.

Here's a quick example of a 2018 CTS Premium with low miles for $22.5K (CA car).

My nephew used to have one of those - classy, sporty, fast, all at the same time.

Please, please do not buy a CTS or even a CTS-V. There is a definite stigma that goes with them. Trust me, I was with Cadillac 25 years ago when they switched to the letter series, CTS, STS, DTS etc.

I forgot about these! Very nice cars.

My first Camaro had the LFX 3.6 (so, the 3.6 that was in the 2014-2015 CTS) before the revised LGX and they are great engines. Other than keeping an eye on the timing chains after 100K, no issues to worry with in them.

Can't be any worse than the stigma with Jeeps, or my Camaro - I've heard everything you can imagine with those two vehicles.

Heck, when I first got with my now fiance her friends were certain I was having a mid life crisis or some other issue with those two vehicles in my stable 😄

I have no idea what direction I'm headed in yet - but this thread floating back up is fun. Never hate talking about cars.

As a backup car a TJ 4.0 would be fine.

Or, if it should be more spaceous, a XJ. Or a WJ.

All I hear there is I can get it cheap if I DGAF what people think.
And I wear cargo shorts and sandals out in public, so you can guess how much I care what people think.
