Brand new to the community. Just brought home my 2021 JTR with the ecoDiesel with auto stop/start. I've had 3 Wranglers prior to the JT and done almost all of the upgrades on them myself. One of the first things I did was add the Amp Powersteps which took a good solid day to do. The directions leave a lot to be desired (to say the least) but I got it all together and I was having issues with the steps not deploying when the doors are opened. It was getting late and decided to call it quits for the day and went to start the JT and got nothin'.

- It was solidly in "park", battery was pushing 12.42v on the multimeter.
- I don't know how to test the accessory battery which (it looks like) is used to actually start the Jeep.
- All fuses tested good.
- I did not test any relays, just didn't want do all that at the time.
- I got no warnings on the dash.
- The message comes up on the instrument cluster to "press the brake and press the start button", but nothing at all.
- I tried both key fobs... nothing.
- I disconnected the Powerstep. Nothing.
- Tried jump-starting it. Nope.

The Jeep has 250 miles on it so this is confounding. I finally had to have it towed back to my dealer. They still can't find what's wrong with it. Kinda depressing! Anyone have this issue after installing an electronic accessory?

if you did not buy a diesel specific kit, please call amp talk to tech and return them! They highly recommend NOT installing these on a diesel...
that being said...... I have and did on my truck... There has been reports of fire hazzard from engine temp in the engine bay. I bought and wrap the wiring harness with heat shielding wrap down bothe side of the harness and I did NOT run my harness "in the engine bay", more so on top of the cowl..

Make sure you have a fire extinguisher in the truck.

He did not install a power step, but someone had an issue recently with the truck not recognizing the key FOB'S. He disconnected both batteries, which caused a system reboot, and that got him going again.

Did you disconnect both batteries while doing the wiring for the steps?

This is correct OP.

However.

If the Aux battery is low, then the system won't crank. I could see this being caused by the steps if they are wired to any thing pertaining to the aux battery.

Something could also not be grounded correctly, or a high power fuse.

Goodluck.

It's weird... I saw a video on Jeep Informant (YouTube) where he disconnects the main battery and is still able to start the JT. I was surprised by that.

I did not disconnect the batteries while doing the install. When I get it back I will remember to do so!

I did see that the exhaust manifold sits toward the rear of the engine bay which is naturally where the step controller would sit... definitely a hazard! I harnessed mine between the battery and outside wall of the engine bay so hopefully that will mitigate heat issues. That engine does run HOT under the hood! I will call Amp Research and talk to them about the diesel install. Thanks!
