hello guys .
Need some help in finding the true.

my wife is looking to install some mudflats to black the sound of the tires.

But I think that mudflap make more noise from the air flow passing through and getting the plastic of the mudflat at highway speeds.

Mudflaps will not block tire noise. Sound is way faster than your jeep. You cant slap some object behind your big tires andmute them. If tire noise bothers her that much go the sound assassin route. Or armorlite if you prefer.

Tuxmats made a noticeable difference for me.

Think of them as 80% of Armorlite's coverage with 10% of the installation hassle. They are the best mats I've ever used and their coverage is huge.

Do you have mud tires? I ask because when I test drove Gladiators I found the mud tires to be unbearable. My truck came with the Falken ATs and they are fine.

The other thing is that I've reduced my highway cruise speed from about 80 to about 70. Wind noise really starts to get obnoxious above 70.

Doesn't even need to be mud tires, the standard Willys AT tires are a LOT louder than the wildpeak at3s. When I traded my willys for a mojave it was almost night and day. The Walmart kendas I replaced the wildpeaks with on day 2 of ownership were not quite as quiet as the oem Falken, but close.

Funny, when I put on my MTs and took a ride I said to my wife "Wow, these tires are loud" and she said "What do you mean, I don't hear anything?" I got lucky and was able to rotate a noisy tire off the driver's front to the passenger rear- used tires on wheels, probably had an odd wear pattern. Still loud, but not the same howl as the first drive.

Most likely, you'll need to find a tire with a less aggressive tread. You might want to pick up a second set of wheels, put street tires on for day to day driving and keep the more aggressive set for off road. Or install sound deadening, turn up the radio and wait for her to get used to it:)

Earplugs will block the noise.

The Willy's package comes with MT's, not AT's. The OEM Falken AT's are quite different to the MT's. Massively.

Tire noise. Try a set of Gumbo Mudders or Super Swampers. Those will put you to sleep in about 45 minutes on the highway.

I thought the stock Rubicon Falken A/T tires were reasonably quiet for an A/T tire compared to my H/T tires. I expected a lot more noise - they were louder, but not as bad as I expected.

And no, on the mud flaps, splash guards, whatever. The sound isn't that directional and it's trapped in the wheel well and comes up through the thinly insulated body.
High frequency sounds are more directional and easier to block, midrange and lower sounds not so much, but the mud flaps aren't where the sound itself would be emanating from anyway.
It's the tire on the highway. And that sound goes all directions. Live on a road where many of the people that go by have trucks and A/T and M/T tires - aggressive ones by the sounds. No piece of rubber or plastic will stop that.

Insulate your floors and sill areas like others have suggested.

I remove the stock wheel well liners, apply Dynamat Extreme on the backside, then re-install the liners. Helps a bit with the noise. Mud flaps would only help a tiny bit.

Any material you put between the sound source and your ears will help some. I also went with Armorlite complete flooring system.

Mine got much quieter once I put the trifold soft cover on. You can tell the difference on and off.

I believe the Willys comes only with MTs.
