2023 Rubicon with an automatic, stock tires. I know I can "manually" shift gears but is there a way to just lock out upper gears (or just 8th) and have it shift though the lower gears like it usually does? This is how the "manual selection" feature works on my Ram. There are times that I'd like to lock out 8th to keep it from shifting so much.

No, not that I've ever found. These don't have a towing mode switch or OD lockout. Not even anything in the TCM that I've found.

Unless you have a big "D" ... Diesels have 7th/8th all day with 37's.
Isn't there a word for that? Seems to me there might be - I'll see if I can ask AI for that one.
Oh, yeah, something called torque?

Thanks for the replies. I wish I could lock out 8th once in a while and have it shift the lower gears as normal. I'll continue using the manual mode for a while, pay attention to RPM at various speeds, and think about gears ratios.

Even with torque, improper gearing leads to poor performance. My diesel Ram was geared 3.42 and felt underpowered in the 45-60 mph range even with its gobs of torque. High gear combined with the differential gearing was just too high. RPMs were below the torque band at that speed and it would downshift on small hills. I re-geared to 4.10 and it was a night and day difference, with no negative effect on MPG. I should have done it years earlier.

yeah torque is nice , you pay for it, so it's great to not only have it, but be able to put it to good use when you need it.
