Is this amount of rust normal for only a few days of rain?

Just don't let the neighbors catch the smell of ether or anhydrous ammonia......

BUT, I'm sure there are home-brew ways, too.

Caswell Plating has home DIY sized kits. I bought an electroless nickel kit from them to nickel plate airplane parts when I was rebuilding my plane.

I remember people on here saying some screws underneath rusted on their mojave. To my surprise i found a lot of rust and i have only had the Mojave drive in the rain a handful of times . What do you guys think? Is this normal? Is it ok? I dont know what to think.

Get a couple can of Fluid Film and spray all the bare metal it will prevent them from rusting, there are a lot of bare metal items under the hood worth spraying as well.

I lost a freakin screw when I checked my air filter the other day so I was looking hard underneath the front of mine. It has more spots of surface rust than I’d like to see, but it’s all bare metal areas. My JK was like that also. My Gladiator has been in the SE it’s whole life and we don’t have rust issues here.

Yeah its more than I would like to see honestly on parts that are painted. The bare metal stuff I understand they probably aren't going to take the time and money to treat those areas at the factory. I freaking love this truck and haven't even had it a month so seeing it rusty made me a little sad lol.

Frankly, some of those areas will rust until it forms a protective layer and then unless it's subjected to salt and such, it likely won't rust any farther. I've got steel parts out under my lean to - they started to rust and stopped once a "patina" was formed.
Frames I might try to deal with in the manner I've described multiple times, but other stuff- depends on how OCD you are. Maybe just leave it.
Think about it - steering gear in cast housings from decades ago - a layer of rust formed and then stopped.

poor coating job at the factory, it's pretty common, sadly.

Can you elaborate on where? When I pick up my truck in TN I'm planning to drive straight to a napa/advanced etc and crawl under it and spray as much as I can before going back up to Minnesota for work. It's my first brand new vehicle and I'd like to prevent as much as I can from the get go because at the end of the day it's going to be a daily and it'll see a LOT of salt back home in NY. So I'd like to protect what I can with a few cans of fluid film.

Where in SoCal are you, what's your proximity to the ocean in where your truck is, i.e. work or fun or living?
