I installed this winch in 2022 and after washing the truck a few days ago, noticed how badly the paint is peeling. As I looked at it closer, it seems there is rust forming under the paint in some areas. The 2nd pic is one of the bolts that holds the motor assembly to the unit. My truck is garage kept and the winch has only been used a handful of times. I've always washed it when washing the truck, pull the rope out and clean it occasionally.

I've used nothing but Warn winches in the past but couldn't pass up the value proposition of Superwinch. Lesson learned. I am in contact with them about warranty coverage but based on the call I had yesterday, I'm skeptical of a positive outcome. I'll update this post as they resolve this but wanted to share in case anyone else is cross shopping the VR 10k vs. the SW12k like I was.

Is it just cosmetic for the paint?

I've seen zeons look worse then that after a couple years. But it's purely cosmetic. Like the cheap as jeep paint job that causes my hinges to bubble. Looking at both currently but the cost of superwinch at least right now is not worth it compared to an VR warn in price difference. Which in my mind is the model line should be comparing the SX line to anyways.

Updated my post, meant VR not Zeon... The paint near the top I wasn't happy about but understood. I'm worried about the bubbles forming under the bolt holding the motor assembly on to the unit.

Saw that, so I was legit questioning if it was giving you any issues yet or not. Right now it doesn't look worrisome but I've seen warn look like hell and never penetrate. So I was curious if super winch was as well sealed or not. Maybe someone who's had one long term with it looking like hell will chime in?

But if I were buying it today with a coupon code off northridge4x4 and a warn rebate can get a warn vr12s for under $800 out the door; so maybe moot point since superwinch is hard to find a deal on lately anyways.
