Never liked what the Brute looks like with the top off. Just the transition from bed to cab is ehh. However, the Ram with the rack and hardshell is beautiful. I plan on a topper for the JT but something like the Ram has might change my mind. Can't wait to see what companies come up with for them. Exciting times for sure.

since the JT will most likely have the freedom panels, if a company designs it correctly, you could remove the entire hardtop and replace it with the new aftermarket design and the pass through is all but guaranteed at that point. I am really excited to see what these great companies have planned.
Oh shit. I hadn't thought of that. Something like an AT Habitat but the entire jeep is open in the center. Sign me up and take my money.

I was already hoping AT Habitat (or similar) came out for the JT, but just the normal bed insert. This, this is just an entire new level.

There have been other post about something like this. I would love to see a cabover camper top that replaced the hardtop. With a rumored payload of 1,400 removing the top will save a little weight. I would also be removing the front and back seat, spare tier, and anything else to help.

One member did bring up a good point about the bed and the cab being two separate pieces that will move individually. I don't think that will be a big deal for someone to engineer a camper top that will be flexible to make up for that movement.
We'll have to see what is really possible in terms of a pass through design and what the real demand is for it relative to what people will be willing to spend for it. . With all of the weight savings that automotive engineers are chasing these days and as litigious as our country is, at our company we avoid cutting vehicles.

For sure there will be a Habitat and other options from AT.

ElCoyote,

I totally agree and understand where you're coming from if you're talking about a passthrough on a Tacoma or a Ram. Cutting the roof, which is part of the roll-over safety structure (and irreversible), is a huge can of worms! That's the difference between those trucks and the JT though. Pretty good chance the JT roof will be fiberglass and not an integral part of the truck's structure. The fiberglass roof could be cut to use as a pass-through without compromising the cab structure. Plus, it's easily reversible. Just buy a new top!

Granted, only making an opening in the fiberglass portions would not be quite a full, rv-style pass through. You would potentially still have to step over the front of the bed if you didn't want to cut any metal. But, looking at the CAD drawings we have seen thus far, there's quite a bit of room between the roll cage cross bar and the top of the bed. Enough to step back into the passenger compartment and grab your phone you forgot in the center console when it's storming outside

The problem is that for a proper pass through you would need to cut the rear of the passenger compartment as well as the front of the bed. I'd put money on it that the engineering of the body contributes to the integrity of the system.

For sure, a full, rv style pass through would mean cutting the passenger tub too. Cutting steel is not ideal. Definitely want to avoid that. How about just a reach-through!

Agreed here. Full pass through would be great, but at least have the reach through. Maybe big enough to let a person squeeze through? I saw an option on the Habitat that said "-Cab slider window $360" so maybe they already plan on having this option on JT's as well...

Jeep would have a reach through.... Chevy would have a reach-around.

The ALU-Cab Khaya has been added to my short list of RV slide ins. I really like the quality and not having the tent being completly exposed to the elements as the habitat offers.
I still think there should be small pass-thru from the rear seats of the JT into the slide-in. This will of course depend on how the JT rear window/hardtop will be designed. A sliding rear window option on the hardtop would be nice. Even if it has to come from the aftermarket.

Here's how Maltec does it on some of their campers. Definitely wouldn't want to use this thing as a full time walkway but it would be nice to squeeze through when it's the middle of the night and storming outside and you realize you left your water bottle in the front seat cupholder.

That’s exactly what I envision. It’s actually bigger than I need but I would take it.
