I'm running 35's on my WIlly's Sport and no issues that I've encountered.

Been driving on 35s with 3.73 gearing for a few months. Mopar lift with a 1 inch puck up front to compensate for the bumper and winch. Used a Tazer to correct the speedo. Took it to Big Bear last month and it ran well. Like others said, gas mileage will take a hit but I'm okay with it since I don't take long drives (5k miles since December 2020) due to working from home. Going over two years of ownership and I'm still in love with it.

I'm running 3.73 stock gears with a 6mt no issues.
I started with 31 then 33s now 35s. not a huge difference from 33s to 35s

With 34" tires, auto trans, and 3.73 gears, the engine was turning under 2000rpm at 75mph in 8th. 4.56s will be this year's big upgrade!

Had a 2020 Sport with Mopar lift and running 315/70 Cooper SST’s. With the 3.73 I saw 7th in perfect conditions and no wind. Never saw 8th unless coasting. 6 months later put 4.56 and would get in 8th at 45mph. It was hoot and would spin those coopers at will.

3yrs later found a deal on a Rubi and traded. I’m Planning to level it and to stay with with stock size.
I’m in La. And it’s fairly flat here and I’m enjoying seeing better than 15-16mpg

but I do miss the 4.56. This rubi in comparison feels sluggish. But I do like it.

Ive talked about my gearing quite often in the past. A quick search should pull up my post.

The rpm’s look a little more than what they were due to camera angle. Maybe 100-150 difference.

I used a JScan to resize and to change gearing as well

I think the biggest argument between those who do and recommend versus those who don't, is elevation and towing.

Gonna be sluggish if you do/have either. Otherwise I personally think it's bareable

Yeah, a lot of answers showing how wonderful it looks, glamor shots, etc. but no one has addressed TOWING.
And Florida? LOL - I can push 22 mpg in FL while I get 18-19 in Iowa. Florida is almost as bad as NE or KS as far as flat in many areas (there are hills in some areas, yes, but FL is a flat state, IMO)
That's not even a test.

I've yet to see people take an Overland, put 35s on and talk about routinely towing 5,000 pounds.

"No issues" but no one talks about towing, and I don't see a lot of talk of impact on the MPG.

So, IMO - the OP's questions haven't really been answered in any depth.
I tow, and around here, there's no way in hell I'd do 35s. 33 is as large as I'll go - MAYBE 34 but no more.
The JTO has to wind up and drop down to 4th or 5th as it is, on the hills here with a trailer behind it.
I don't see 8th gear at 65-70 mph very often here. I'd never see it with 35s.
I don't see trying to impress with big tires worth the drawbacks when using the truck as a truck.
But I don't have rocks around here that require a truck to sit high.

35s on my wife’s JLU gasser feels miserable to me, she averages 16.5-17mpg with heavy Patagonia tires. I’m on 37s in my Overland and it’s so much easier to drive but I also have the oil burner and get 5-6mpg more than her.

I found this video interesting. Helps you figure out what gearing you may need for tire size to keep it close to stock etc

The OP specifically said NOT towing.... Most of the answers given were with that in mind.

Trip to Ohio and back from La during 1st week of November one year apart. I went the same way both times.

looking at the miles they were practically the same, time wise was a little different and fuel economy well… wasn’t much I guess but there was a difference. Hell the temp was practically same and the miles on the jt were almost exactly double.

The pic with lower mpg was 315/70 with 3.73’s

the other was with 4.56

As far as towing I have a tandem 16’ with round rails and a Honda pioneer.

3.73 stayed in 5th on highway

4.56 stayed in 7th and 8th same roads

In the sport never saw Over 19mpg stock , my Rubi does better so there’s that.

I’m not saying get them or don’t. Just stating my findings.

I plan to keep the rubi stock sans a 1” level in the front.

Agree on this. I'm just saying and I think ShadowsPapa was also hitting on is, in terms of the main arguments on those who agree on 35s on 3.73s versus those who don't, is towing and elevation. Regardless of what the OP stated his uses are. We're just saying those 2 factors in general, are often over-looked more than not on this topic and I agree. I can play devils advocate a bit cause I don't try to shy away from "looks" by any means. Hell the glamour shots thread is my favorite on the forum. I'm no rock crawler. But I'm no mall crawler by any means. Not even close. I get off-road often. Would like to even more. So, I try to balance between both what's nice and what's practical FOR ME. The main thing is in my case. I'm not blind to the concerns that often others over-look.

Again I myself have 35 equivelents and say in MY OWN experience considering I also don't tow like the OP mentioned not planning to, I personally think its manageable. But I also live in KY. We do have our share or elevation in the eastern part of my state. But isnt nearly as bad in my area/city (Louisville). Overall pretty flat here. No Florida by any means, but it's no Pittsburgh or Cincinnati full of hills. Could it be better. Of course. But for my use, I'm fine. If I go 37s I'll regear. But I'm content and don't plan to. So 35s it is. And not solely for looks either.

End of the day, regardless of this toppic which has been abused on this forum with tons of arguments previously, be aware and make YOUR OWN choice based off all factors. Even ones that are often over-looked. People are always going to agree and disagree.
