I happen to have an accessory that guarantees me better MPG on drives without my trailer......... it's called "wife". Install any place in the truck, especially behind the steering wheel, and I guarantee better mpg.

You literally made me laugh out load. Unfortunately for me, my accessory drives faster than I do and has called me a wussy while I was driving!

Close to 21 mpg for the week 2 hour highway trip 6 days of local roads, 2 hour highway trip. I’m pretty sure I never got that in my tundra.

HAHA - the only time my wife has said "FASTER FASTER, pass this guy, hurry" was when we were warned about a crazy strong storm, the likes of which Iowa had never seen before - our recent record derecho. We were in Ames, she got a text from a friend - get out of dodge, NOW! SEEK SHELTER. Then another from another friend - 70-80 mph winds, hail, get out now!
She said we gotta get home - I threw the roof panels on in record time - luckily I had put them in the truck before leaving home.... and we hit the road. Trust me, these things SCOOT! We almost outran that storm that was travelling 70 mph toward us from the west as we were driving south toward home. She hollered - FASTER - as fast as you can go and not wreck. (naw, she didn't want me going THAT fast.....) It was so funny as normally she's "stay back, don't go so fast". Unless she's driving her Grand Cherokee - you just sit back and don't say a thing.
I still recall the one time she drove my 70 Javelin home after a show....... all the other cars saw was tail lights.

I get about 17, with a Sport S, driving mostly back roads and city, with some highway sprinkled in. I have the freedom panels off about 90% of the time, the rest of the roof and the doors off once in a while and no Tonneau cover. I've read before the bed cover could save you 1-2 MPG, so maybe I can use that as an argument to my wife about why I need it now, so it can start paying for itself!

Rats I can't touch that with my Overland pulling my EMPTY 1600 pound trailer on I80! I got a whopping 11-12 TOPS when trying - and I do mean TRYING, to maintain the 70 mph speed limit.
This and everything else I've seen tells me mine has some issues...........
You got 15 with a loaded trailer and I got 11-12 with an EMPTY flat bed - and mine had trouble on hills and couldn't decide what gear to be in.

Is your Overland stock no modifications? I have also noticed that Rubicons, and Overlands seem to get less MPG. Might have something to do with the Tow package?

Wow... that’s awesome.

my diesel canyon got 38mpg but if i hooked up to my tandem 16’ with a Honda pioneer I got 18mpg.

my sport gets 12 with empty trailer, rubi tires/wheels.

I’ll be lucky to get 15 minus trailer once I add the 35’s.

Yea, I think when you lift them and change the tire size seems the MPG drop!

My Overland is stock (save for springs and shocks)
I get GREAT MPG with no load - no trailer. I can get 25 at times, 22-23 is typical with mixed driving. 22 if I try to maintain 70 mph. 23-24 if it's mostly 55-60 mph driving.

But put a trailer behind it - my empty flatbed aluminum car hauler, you drop mpg like a rock and the power sucks and transmission keeps shifting just to keep the truck moving.

Either my engine calibration is out of whack and has no power at higher RPM, or the transmission program came from a script-kiddy hacker practicing his talents.

No trailer, it exceeds all of my expectations big-time.
Trailer - I'm concerned about pulling my cars.

The majority of both trips was light highway traffic and cruise set on 72mph. From a driver’s perspective both trips seemed about the same as far as stop and go through a couple towns and fairly light traffic on the highways. JT is lifted with 35s and 3.73 gears. Lots of gear changing between 6-7-8 on the highway to maintain speed. I normally get around 18 driving around town day to day for reference.

You should get better mpg going down than you would coming up.

OK, they thought about that a while and realized - finally - that I was pulling their leg.
But then - am I? Going from an elevation of about 900 feet to sea level? LOL

Yep, interstate driving I average 23-24 mpg, drove it to North Caroline from Indiana in January that was my average gas mileage.

Stock Overland here with hard tri fold tonneau cover, I average about 20 MPG pretty consistently. I've got 5,000 miles on her.

I sold this one last fall - it's in Texas now. Man, I miss that car! 390, go-pak, heavy-duty suspension, torque links, side pipes, factory ram air, power disk brakes, 31,000 actual miles.

I still have my 73 - a work in progress.........
