$3700 is what my local shop quoted me for going from 4.10 to 5.13.......and that's with the veteran/homie hook up; I live in the DMV and nothing is cheap here.

I have worked in the automotive industry off and on for the last 30 years. People as a whole over look the cost and overhead with running a shop. To hire qualified techs cost a boat by itself. A regear is not a task for an Quick lube person. Only reason I won't do it myself it the cost for the tools to do it right would exceed the saving.

It's very much a buy once cry once........unless if you cheap out and go with Yukon gears .........you'll cry again when the pinion gear sheds itself..........ask me how I know.

Food for thought, no hate and shit. Just keeping it real.

Cheers!
You right!!

I started the work, after 4 days I smashed a shim. So I called it quits. Took the shop paid their price ( no cheaping out). My only goal was get to done myself. Not about saving the money, since I knew this was not an easy process.
Four days was not enough for me with a full time job and since my jeep is my daily driver too, I didn’t had the choice of keeping it off for more than the four days I had available ( I tried last Thanksgiving) took to a trusty shop. Got it done, and now just happy …. and a garage full of tools. At least I can do other jobs within my jeep with the tools.

My point is doable, not impossible, take the Dana training, real all the material. Videos help, Dana training is the de-facto source of leaning. But in my case, I should have had a lift, or a better space, driveway in the cold was not fun. Also, you need time, more time than you expect.

cheers!

I just got quoted 2900.00 and its the cheapest I found . Nitro gears. $1197.00( includes tax and shipping) for gears and rest labor.
Why I think its a good deal for me . Its only 120miles away. And every where else cheaper than that the trip down(fuel, eats ,hotels) and the extended trip back for cool downs and gear oil changes cost wise & time wise would exceed the higher priced places like east coast and several in Virginia and PA Most wanted around 3200-3500 .
Rebel off road and Exodus in TX both was about 2000 but for a 24 hr. Road trip down etc. It just wasnt feasible . So 900.00 extra for me seemed very reasonable.

I just had Dana’s installed for $2700 about one hour south of Chicago. Interesting to see the price differences across the nation.

Local dealers near me all quoted around 2400 just in labor, no parts. Just to re-gear.

Called a pretty highly reviewed shop a few hours away (5-6 hours) from me (known for jeeps) and they quoted about 2800 OTD using Dana/Spicer gears, and was upfront about the additional fluid change cost for break-in. I'll probably go with them when the time comes, unless another small business can earn my trust more and factor the LSD upgrades too.

I get it, parts are expensive and people gotta stay in business, but prices are crazy steep these days it seems, even for quality work. Even funnier when businesses try saying "well we can find people who want to work" nah bro, you just want to keep your profits increasing.

Labor rates, facility cost and utilities are all different regionally.

The cost of a 7500sqft in the DMV is at least double the cost of down south and I forgot the glorious taxes
