So my key fob fell in between the drivers seat and console. I reached down from the top to grab it and the key slid into the half circle hole in the bottom of the console. I cant get a tool or magnet in there. The seat won't move far enough to let me see or get a hand on anything. Suggestions???
Do I take out the drivers seat or try to get the console to come up?
It has proximity locks so I don't want someone to try and steal my daily driver.
Any help would be appreciated

Gotta be honest I just looked and I didn't see this hole you were talking about BUT, the rear cupholder is pretty pliable. I think it's held in with a couple pop clips so you might be able to reach the key from the back there

This must be a semiannual event for at least someone. ;) I think I've seen a few threads on just this. I've probably got 10 or more pens n things stuck in that area too.

If you pop this off, there is a bolt you can remove that will allow you to lift the entire console up from the rear. It's still a tight fit, but you should be able to get a wife or small child's arm in there to grab it.

Don't ask me why I know this, or why I have a big scar on my left arm... 😒

Take the front bolts out from the seat base and loosen the rear seat base bolts.
You then can tilt the whole seat back and get to the hole.

To not risk breaking clips, or plastic pieces of the console, I'd just remove the seat mount bolts in the floor & move the seat back out of the way to gain access.

Ihave dropped keys there a couple times. Been lucky so far able to recover it without removing anything. Thinking about putting something in that area to catch things before they go too far down

Correct - this is also how you install the aftermarket "Gladiator style" cupholder in the JT Sahara that comes with useless silly shallow trays in stead of cupholders. Probably because there are cupholders in the fold down armrest in the middle of the back seat, but useless when you ride with 5...

Great advice and some much needed comedy too!
What kind of socket would I use on the seat bolts?
I know the console bolts are 10 mm.

I did the exact same thing a few years ago when I owned my JL. The seat takes a different size socket (than what I had) and if you have someone around with small hands you may be able to get it once you take the seat out. Then stuff socks/rags in that area. To this day I can't believe they create a situation where that can happen

The seat bolts have an external torx head, size E-12.
The NAPA tools part number for a 3/8" drive socket to fit it is S38E12.

Hope this is a help.

I don't understand how that giant key fob can slip into anything. I can barely slip it into my pockets.
The fob being eaten by the hole in the console is similar to the rule of the universe that whenever you drop a wrench, it will always land on the floor directly under the center of the truck. 😉
