Fantastic! Love when people go the extra mile to make their rig stand out.

I've finally gotten the wheels dialed in and couldn't be happier with the results. Massive delays were imposed post powder with logistics and mount/balance/alignment availability but man I'm so stoked with the results. After a test shot, they ended up adding more yellow to steer the prismatic bayou green closer to sarge.

I've been hemming and hawing on wheel selection when I noticed that the gray versions of the Roswell wheels by KMC (1 of 2 finalists) were significantly cheaper than black. Enough cheaper to where I ended up grabbing 5 for a full spare. They are being powder coated so color doesn't really matter.

Wheel Specs:
Size: 17x8.5
Offset: 0mm
Weight: 26lbs

Tires:
Make: Toyo Open Country A/T 3
Size: 35x11.5

Tires weren't cheap but I've been wanting to run these since they came out. The reduced width vs. 12.5" will help cut down to the ice in winter while slinging a tad less sludge down the side of the truck.

All in all, I was able to get:
5 wheels
5 tires
Set of 4 black spline lugs
$2,243 shipped from Extreme Customs although I had to call in to get that pricing.

I'll update the posting when they come back from powder and when mounted.

I actually have a set of these in my cart and then I ran across this thread..... maybe should of heard bells or birds chirping... lol

Howdy! If I remember correctly they were about $75 a pop which included stripping and paint matching the plastic center caps. They had to tweak prismatic's color a bit to get the match right on the powder. Once the powder was matched, paint matching the caps was trivial. The cost starts to not make sense (to me) if I'm already into an expensive wheels but these KMC wheels afforded the ability for me to go with the custom color. I originally wanted to go with Fifteen 52's Analog HD wheel, I feel like they nail the old school look a bit better, but they were quite a bit more. Hope that helps!

I notice that you had said that they list that color powder coat as a match to the Sarge green. Do they have some formula that matches to paint? I have always been told my the powder coat companies that their is no way to match paint. They have always told me to try to visually look at samples to try to find something close. This has me very curious as it would be nice to match paint to powder coat or vice versa.

I don't think there is a means by which a powder coater can auto match a powder to existing paint. They'll test shoot a few variants on a piece of scrap, let it bake and pick the closest. That's what we ended up doing. Prismatic sends samples, which is great, but material color can impact the final result. I realize I'm making this sound like a PITA but it really isn't. My process has been to just pay the $5 or $6 for dozens of samples from Prismatic, I just pick a bunch that appear close. Then when the samples arrive I hold them up to the thing I'm trying to match.

I would expect John Wayne dressed in full Army gear to get out of that vehicle. Love it.

They are, and made out of plastic. The shop paint matched them. I was skeptical that they’d be able to do it and planned on just leaving them off but they turned out great.

Good morning! We're here to resurrect your old thread :)

Is there any chance that the company who mixed the Prismatic Bayou Green for you with some Yellow might have that mix ratio available?

You're serving as some inspiration for us.

We're also curious how the finish has held up after two years.

TIA!

Howdy, they've held up incredibly well. I took a quick pic just now, the condition you see them in this shot is how they live 95% of the time. I ceramic coated them shortly after picking them up and ever since I just foam cannon then pressure wash them back to new looking. Zero chips, peeling nothing. They are small in diameter with lots of tire to protect them. Multiple balances (on 2nd set of tires with the wheels post powder) with stick-on weights added and removed haven't damaged the finish on the barrels either. I hoped to wash it this weekend, if so I'll take some post cleaning shots.

That said, I'm actually more impressed with how the center caps have held up. They are plastic which were matched with a single-stage standard body paint and shot with 3 coats of clear. They are looking just as new. I thought for sure they'd either fade or succumb to heat cycles (they are pretty thin plastic) and start peeling. I felt so sure they'd fail that I almost painted my hubs black before mounting them knowing I'd be removing failed caps sooner or later.

As for the powder mixture, we ended up moving from PA to KY about 10 months ago so I haven't been in touch with them. They are a husband and wife shop which, at least in my experience, operate more like mad scientists. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they literally tossed in pinches of their house yellow by hand and shot test strips, tossed a few more and shot another test strip, then baked an array of test strips with another run and said "ok, 3 pinches of X per LB of the powder I brought them is a match" and that was that.

Given how the caps have held up though I'd not hesitate to go with a reputable traditional paint shop as long as they were willing to go heavy with a quality clear. Not sure what you're planning to shoot but one thing that's killer about traditional paint and clear is it will take a few corrections over the years if one picks up some surface scratches/pinstripes/etc. Once powder is scratched or damaged, their really isn't a way to bring it back to new looking without re-doing the entire job which would be a PITA for a wheel.

Jeep Gladiator KMC Roswell Wheels > Powder Coating Sarge Green wheel

Found a shot I took late Feb of this year when I got my new meaties installed. The wheels are are so new looking it almost looks fake somehow but yeah, here is the pic from 2 months ago:
