Before the salt for asking a noob question …I did search for exact words and I am an old fart to boot.

Is there a clearance increase for Sport max tow over non max toe?

Short bumper, plastic removed, 17 x 7.5 rims with 4. 10 gear.

Over 65, beach fisher, no rock crawler and ranch roads that don’t require 4wd except when mud but want 37s like it’s Christmas.

What say you?

Thanks

might be possible if you put in the Rubicon suspension

My daughter wanted the decals for a gaming reference .
I tell everyone it’s not when they ask me what I paid.
Funny, it was a woman that told me it wasn’t a Mojave
while fueling.
I would have done it for my kid too. No harm to anyone.

Ah yes, the ol' "how much tire can I shove under my stock Jeep" question.

I am on Jeep #29. My advice, figure out if you plan to USE your Jeep, and HOW.
Pick a tire that does that best.

Unless "mall-cool" is your goal.
Mall-Cool is still cool... just about every show car out there is just that. If you have a show JT and it does what you want, in say go for it BroDozer! Good Times!

I have a JTR, pretty much a Mall-crawler. Gotta travel too far just to get to good off roads in my neck of woods. Some will say, "Why you buy a Rubicon?" I say because the price and my trade for it. It was a once in lifetime opportunity. I would have been a fool to pass it up.

You could do like I did, buy a set of Mojave Wheels and tires. The 285/70r17s fit great and no issues off road.

performance and mpg seem unchanged with the taller but same width tires, around 20-21 highway. I used my flashcal to adjust tire size in the ecm.

Thats fantastic. I like the width and the nice mpg. Just wish I could find them closer to a 34in so they dont look odd with my 2in lift. Though really its only a 0.7in difference in height.

i fit 315/70/17 under my STOCK willys.....so you will have no problems with the Max tow option. as long as the airdams are removed that are located between the bumper and the fender.

Mickey Thompson recently released a 255/85/17 which looks pretty cool and is 35” tall.

Hey guys. I have a similar question but am interested in 20" rims. I am about to take delivery of a 2021 Sport Max Tow package. I was quoted about 5K from my dealer and he wanted to do a 2" lift with new wheels and tires. What I would rather do is just level the front and put the max size 20" rim/tire combo. I like a wide stance and would like to get close to a 34". From what I have read a lot of people are doing 285/70/17 and 285/75/17. What would be the appropriate 20" tire for my set up?I tow a very large heavy boat so I want to retain my tow capacity. Thanks in advance.

Falken offers the 34.1" spec height 275-65-20 (and other sizes that are even wider) but the result is that the JT won't be max tow in effect anymore. Lifting increases center of gravity, a negative impact for towing, and tall, heavy tires change the effective gearing negatively while increasing inertia. I lost some effectiveness for towing with my larger than stock tires, but remained conservative on height, width, and weight to minimize the negative effect while getting some positive improvements for other purposes such as trail riding. A big, heavy trailer/boat can become the tail that wags the dog. I use my Ram 3500 SRW for heavy towing, and consider my max tow to be a minimalist backup. You might consider the Ram to be overkill, but I don't want to be overdead if things go wrong on the highway. The 3.6 liter V6 is tiny by yesterday's standards, about 219.9 cubic inches. 4.10 ratio and the 8 speed trans help, but only so much. Additionally, a wider stance from wheel offset puts more leverage on the ball joints, bearings, spindles, etc. That effect can reduce weight capacity and even cause the housing to bend in extreme situations.

Thanks for the response. I have a first Gen V8 Raptor that I usually tow my boat with and like you said this Gladiator will be an unlikely backup in a pinch. Its actually for my son but in the event we need to tow with it I want it to be as capable as possible. I'm also considering keeping the stock wheels and going to the 285/75/17 KO2 with the higher weight rating. Maybe that will give it the look I'm looking for with keeping the tow package as strong as possible. As far as the power, I have been watching the reviews on youtube for the Magnuson Supercharger that I heard adds 100HP. Interesting but pricey and i'm sure would void my warranty so probably not going to try that for 3 years at least.
