I didn't read through everything, so what I'm about to say probably has been covered.
Before you start throwing time, money, and parts at it and hoping something sticks, clean the entire area. I mean everything that has schtuff on it that's NOT supposed to be there.
Then drive it, park it, and start looking for source. You have things in the area that spin and can sling crap EVERYWHERE. You have to find the source.
There is a strong chance the bearing cage (cheap ass design) malfunctioned and grenaded the seal with it. Or you may get lucky and it's just the seal. But you won't know until you've identified the source.
Me personally, if it's just the seal, I'm putting the better bearing in there too.
