Looking for advice with the value of purchasing a cold air intake and changing my steering stabilizer. First, are they worth the upgrade? The steering seems a bit loose and heard a lot of good hype regarding cold air intakes. More HP, for example. if so, what do you all recommend? Thanks Jeep family.

I fabbed my own cold air intake using the very functional stock air box for a tiny fraction of the usual price to replace the whole thing and not a single issue.

Jeep Gladiator Cold air intake and steering stabilizer worth it? 1613414472640

I also replaced the stock steering stabilizer with a FOX TS (same series as the Mopar 2 inch lift series shocks) and I think it helped with some of the steering slop. Of course a I also had the steering box upgraded and a SteerSmarts Yeti XD track bar installed as well.

Lastly, shout out to Naples...wish I was there right now as it peaks at 12 degrees today here in Colorado!! Coming back to Venice in April!

Without catback exhaust and a tuner, CAI's dont do much. Maybe Mopar sells them but they wont tell you that CAI's will void the drivetrain warranty. I had a dealer do a 5 yr inspection on the wife's JK and they wouldnt signoff until the CAI was removed. Had to make it stock again.

My .02 is to skip the CAI, but definitely replace the stabilizer. That was my first mod for $100 and well worth it (went with Fox 2.0) and it made a great difference. Followed with the steering TSB and the steering tightened up significantly. Good luck.

That basic fox steering stabilizer is a great upgrade. Imo theres no reason to get anything more expensive until you go to adjustable. And even then, i bet half the people who buy adjustable succeeded in making their steering worse by making it too stiff

If you will have your Jeep offroad much, relocate the stabilizer with an available bracket like Clayton (my favorite), MetalCloak, or Synergy. That will keep whatever stabilizer you have (even stock) from getting damaged. That’s more important. Cold air intakes are mostly a waste of money, and don’t change much but sound. Sometimes, they increase your likelihood of sucking up water.

I too, am curious about a Fox stabilizer used with a stock Mojave.
I traded my '15 JKU on a barely used Mojave and the previous owner put a CAI on it. After driving it for 2 months, here is my take on the CAI...

1.) More power and much quicker acceleration. But, is that because of the gearing and a completely different transmission than my JKU ? Probably.
2.) Better fuel mileage ? No.
3.) Does it sound BAD-ASS ? YES !

Spend that money on a different mod

Ive been eyeing up the Mishimoto or Mopar intake as I plan to do the Mopar or AEV snorkel one day. I used to work with FCA so I get EP on Mopar parts. I love playing around and working on vehicles, since I was 16 playing with my 91’ XJ. I dont drink or smoke so my Jeep is my addiction. Its my getaway on days off after long shifts. Do what makes you happy and makes you enjoy that Gladiator even more. Go for it!

Hows the mopar intake? Im eyeing up that unit. I can get it at cost. Worthy?
It is. Probably only picks up about 10hp up top on a stock tune; but stacked with a tuner of some kind it can have a pretty noticeable impact.

Kurt,

Can you please describe the advantages of the Fox stabilizer on your Mojave ?
It really helped steering feel and added a little weight to it. This helped dial out the center line wander on the highway and made the truck less nervous as speed. Combined with TSB it felt like a german car on the highway. I really think its worth the couple bucks. Dont sweat the through shaft. The standard 2.0 is plenty fine, and there is no variation in wheel feel through the movement despite what you read on the internet. . Imo 2.0 or all the way up to adjustable.
