How loud are the STT Pros? I had Discoverer STTs (not pros) on my 05 Colorado several years back that I got rid of because I simply couldn't take the noise anymore. Traction was phenomenal, however. I had Nitto Terra Grapplers following the STTs and I liked those a lot in the snow, as well. Recently, on my Sierra I had Kelly Safari TSRs. They are very similar to Goodyear Duratracs. They did very well in snow. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how the stock Falken ATs do as they are snow rated.

I wonder if it just comes down to tires? When the original tires on my Sierra were worn out I could spin them even on wet pavement just taking off from a stop light. Even with traction control trying to mitigate wheel spin it would still do it for a couple seconds before the computer could catch up. I would imagine that with worn or less aggressive tires there is just less available traction which can make it harder for the nannies to do their thing? When I replaced those tires with new tires I could no longer spin the tires. I would see the orange light come on on the dash from time to time but the intervention was imperceptible. I guess it didn't have to work as hard to control things with more suitable tires on the truck?

Of course, the above is all speculation on my part but I don't think anyone will argue that the stock Overland tires don't offer as much traction as say the Falken ATs.

You may actually be right - yeah, speculation but it does fit the circumstances and no one is really complaining about the truck itself in that way........ so, tires.

I will be looking for a set - perhaps "take-offs" with wheels since mine are 18" of course. Even the accessories guy at a dealership yesterday said the choices for my wheels are more expensive and less variety. I'd keep these for summer and highway, and get a set of wheels and tires, hopefully not real expensive ones someone else took off. I do like these wheels, they have a good clean look to them.
I am absolutely going to try to find tires - the sooner the better with the weather they way it gets.

Do you think the heavier weight of the Silverado has anything to do with it? My Sierra (crew cab, 6.5' bed) had a curb weight of well over 1,000lbs more than my Gladiator.

Was it an older model? Or was it a 2500 HD?

My 2015 Crew Cab Sierra 1500 with the 5.75' bed weighed in at only 5,197 lbs, only 200 lbs heavier than my JTR.

I think they just added the word "Pro." I've looked, and have been unable to find an "STT Amateur" model.

I can't figure out what the difference might be, but mine are the quietest MTs, by far, on which I have ever driven or ridden. Most of the reviews say that they are amazingly quiet for a MT. A few reviewers say that thy are "loud." Honestly I never notice mine. I can barely hear them with a window down, and can't hear them at all with the windows up.

So, I don't know why peoples' experiences vary so much on these. Perhaps the newer ones are quieter, but the ones I had on my H2 from 2006+ were pretty quiet to me.

I had a '16 1500 Sierra SLT Crew Cab with the 6.5' bed. I was fairly certain that thing tipped the scales a little over 6,000lbs but I just double checked and according to Edmunds it weighed 5,484 lbs. My bad.

I guess it's not the weight, then.

Curb weight 5212............ it was a 2011 extended cab. 1500

The tread is definitely a different pattern than the ones I had. The STTs were a much more traditional looking and symmetrical MT design. I would guess the "Pro" is just the evolution of the product.

Interesting. I didn't realize they had changed. My new ones (on both the H3 and the JKR) are more-than quiet enough, and that seems like a consensus, but a few disagree. I think they are used to much tamer tires.

The Dueller AT tires have tested out well compared to the Copper AT and are on a par in both wet and snow driving. Trying to use a highway tire like the Dueller H/T on the Overland in Snow and Ice is putting them in a situation they are not designed for. The AT tires fair better in multi situations than the HTs and the more aggressive Off Road STT and MT tires the Rubi come with are better in Snow and off road situations. It is a matter of getting the right tire for the road conditions you have to deal with.

I have the Dueller ATs and they are performing well in gravel and wet roads I deal with here. My only issue is they tend to hold small rocks in the treads.

Thanks! You wouldnt happen to know how the Falken M/T handle? Some reviews said they are surprisingly well and given I have my set in 255/75/17 making them relatively narrow, I hope they do better

I’m running the Falken M/T tires and have been pleasantly surprised at how well they do in snow. When the weather gets really bad, Wyoming institutes a tire restriction law. I’m glad I have M+S tires. I haven’t had any issues with snow. Do yourself a favor, get the RokBlokz front mud flaps. Keeps crud from getting under your door handles.

Bill, you could use the new PATAGONIA X/T on the 18-inch wheels on your JT to get better snow/ ice performance, along with the sandbags.

You've given more info and even a bit more of a push to do something sooner rather than later. I agree, these HTs are absolutely for highway, smooth and quiet driving. I want to use the JT more like a truck at times and one reason I went Jeep was because they are typically well suited for really nasty roads - snow and such. But my wife insisted on this type for the options and color and such so I need to make some changes with it to make it better on the roads like we had this week. It's not one bit unusual to have that sort of driving condition out there- in fact it's weird we've not see more like it. But winter ain't over yet.

Thanks - will do a search for them and see what they are like. Again, I'd not mind finding another set of wheels and tires and just swap but will look at your suggestion via search and see what I learn.
