Right now, Bilstein 5100's. Want to go with another shock. Would love a set of Ohlins.
What's wrong with the 5100's?

What's wrong with the 5100's?
Not to answer for the other guy but we've run a lot of different shocks over the years including the 5100s on several different Jeeps. The digressive valving makes them feel stiff over smaller bumps, potholes, etc. They are great for aggressive driving because of this, minimizing body roll, brake dive, etc but that's not how most drive their Jeeps anyway. For big bumps, washboards, etc they tend to be under dampened. If you want a softer on road feel you don't want a digressive shock. Fox 2.0s or rocksport reds will ride smoother. If you want more dampening off road at speed you'll need to step up to a 2.5" shock in my experience.

That's my take on the 5100's too. Hard when they should be soft. Soft when they should be hard.

Is Ohlins even playing in Jeeps any longer? I know they were here for a bit and rode really nice .
Heard they got out to focus on side by sides...

Is that the case with a winch?

I still see them advertised. Anywhere from $3,800 to $4,200 for a set of 4.

Or do like I did. Look around and see who is using what kits and parts from different companies. Then piece together from those companies what you want. A Franken lift. All of my control arms, steering linkage and front track bar is from Core 4x4 because I wanted Johnny joints. The rear track bar is a bent Clayton, only because Core doesn't offer a bent rear bar. Front and rear geo brackets are Teraflex. Springs are Clayton.

To each is own.
Actually, Core 4x4 does have a bent rear track bar, you have to select the "rear track bar clearance bend for spare tire" option before moving it to your cart. Not sure how new this option is from Core, but it was an option when I purchased mine in March. Core's crawl option with lifetime warranty are top tier.

That wasn't an option when I bought my rear track bar. If it was. I would have gotten it instead of the bent Clayton bar.

You'll find the ride different adding the winch.
I found it softened the ride ever so slightly. @Rusty PW what I did was got the Badlands 12k Apex winch specifically so I could have synthetic line (which weighed 5 pounds. The winch weighed 61 pounds by itself. ( contacted harbor freight for weight.
If you get the wire cable it by itself weighs a staggering 21 pounds. That's why I went synthetic.
The bumper options are endless but in the end I went with a stubby for added wheel clearance @ extreme articulation . & to boot the steel stubby bumpers are lighter that the other full coverage steel options out there. With the exception of aluminum like @WILDHOBO just recently installed on his .. thanks to that now its on my list of wants that I dont need too 😂😂

that is is a fair evaluation, I would say in the 90's sky jacker was the Go to for leaf springs rig Its almost comical how bad they have got

even though i have Teraflex (price point on my JT I would put BDS above them
BDS is terrible in my opinion. Exact same hardware as jks. Terrible customer service and garbage bushings. My teraflex IR control arms dominate, never loosen up, and need ZERO maintenance. No jam nuts or Johnny joints for me. I agree. I used skyjacker to lift my 80 cj7. Other than their shocks, the rest was great back then. Anyone who wants my jks/bds control arms can have all 8 for free. Or I’m going to weld up some creatures with them. :)
