I can confirm this. Custom orders on Jeeps are the best deals out there right now. I got a quote for 6% under invoice for my custom order (search for other threads here to find dealerships offering this). The salesperson said he could not make the same deal for trucks on the lot. Which is fine by me, because I prefer to custom order and get exactly what I want. Also, I’m guaranteed no one has farted in my seat. :)
That's interesting. I ordered with a full employee discount code, so I never had to talk pricing much. Usually the guy is under pressure to move stuff on the lot RIGHT NOW, but these are strange days.

I agree with your point but I'm not following this bit...the dealer let a customer order go for a cheaper price than a unit he had on hand? If anything, I would have expected the opposite...?
Dealers are letting people order for cheap because they are attempting to poach business out of their region. The side effect is some people in their region who may have bought off the lot for more anyway are getting in on the deal. The total volume of business more than makes up for a couple shorter sales.

Remember dealers also get lot plan assistance, to help them pay some of the interest for cars sitting on their lots. Every car gets lot plan assistance, including those that arrive effectively pre-sold. Most floor plans dont charge any interest for the first 90 days. So you may make no money on paper selling sold orders for "nothing" but they get money on the backend, getting interest assistance for cars they know they'll pay zero interest on.

Also, Stellantis (and previously FCA) seem to prioritize retail orders over allocation, so them bumping their number of retail orders up means they can grab more inventory than they would otherwise be allowed selling strictly off the lot. This increases their sales for the year granting them a higher allocation the following year.

There are a number of reasons why it's extremely profitable to be a high-turnover dealer. It's just some dealers don't want to do the work and try to skate by selling TRXs for 10k over sticker or other goofy shit. The regular deals pay to keep the lights on while the customers they rip off line the pockets.

There is a lot more money to be made with a full lot than an empty one, especially right now. Discount order dealers are keeping their lots filled.

I’m in the process of ordering a ‘22 Mojave. I was also told no dual-top or bed liner (or hard top headliner), but they did allow the LED light upgrade. I guess we’ll see what happens when he tries to submit the order today. No LEDs would be a deal breaker for me.

Salesperson also told me it’s due to model year switching over. He said ‘23 orders should open up in July. I didn’t want to wait.

I’ve also seen rumors of a $2k price increase, partially due to mandatory emergency braking system on the ‘23s. Totally hearsay, but sounds plausible.
I seem to have gotten lucky I guess, because when I put my order in it had LEDs and the bed liner and the painted hard top which I’m hearing are all problems now and so far I haven’t heard anything after the order was placed.

I spoke to two different dealerships, and they both told me the same thing. They also implied that options come and go depending on availability, and it was possible some of these options could become available again for ‘22 orders. Or not. You’re kind of gambling if you wait it out.

I really hope they have enough common curtesy to call or text me if something comes up where it’s unavailable but I might just have to do it because I’m already on day 30 and the only thing I’ve gotten so far from them was the VIN.

i dont understand why people are ordering Gladiators and waiting for months. There are 10+ gladiators sitting on 4 different dealer lots in 35 mile radius of my house.

I paid $56k for a well optioned White Rubi, sitting on dealer lot (i was fortunate enough to find one with a build date before the last price increase, so that contributed to the savings).

If you are looking at a premium color, Gobi, Sting Ray, Snazzberry then maybe you will want to go the ordering route. Other than that do some research (search on Autotrader) call a bunch of dealers and make a deal.

The price will continue to go up so I highly recommend not waiting.
Agree. I did order mine because I wanted a Sport S Max Tow with all the packages. That was impossible to find on a lot. But my dealer has some well optioned Rubis on their lots. Plus I got the best price deal with a custom order.

My understanding is that once you get your VIN, your options are allocated and there shouldn't be any changes. So you should be set.

All the info has been great! Hearing about AEB regulations and the associated price hikes make me want to hurry up and get in on the 22 MY. While it might be a slight inconvenience, any of the options that I’m not able to get factory, can be done aftermarket. At least it looks like I’m able to do cold weather and black wheels Haha.

I'm glad there are larger regional dealerships that will do like 6% below invoice such as Koons and Mall of Georgia.

My local dealer in my small town wouldn't even BUDGE a dollar off MSRP to FACTORY order my JTRD. So I said screw them I'll drive the four hours to Mall of Georgia.

They say below invoice but I’m sure it’s MSRP, this seems to be a common misconception on here, invoice is what the dealership gets it at
