Just curious, if any of you are using a aftermarket gas cap that locks, I've had my gas tank door opened by somebody twice in the past week, not sure if somebody it trying to siphon gasoline from my tank or if somebody is just messing with me.....I'd be interested in buying a good, locking gas cap though.

You have three options.

Stant, fits any vehicle, extra key.

MOPAR, fits any vehicle, extra key.

MOPAR, you have to set the lock up to your FOB key. I have this one.

Those are in order from least expensive to most expensive.

I bought the Mopar 5278655AB in February. This is the model that has comes with its own keys. Works great!

For the fob key, so you put the key into the cap, which allows you to remove the cap. Do you then leave the key in the cap while fueling? So the key fob is dangling from the cap as it hangs on the side of the fuel door while pumping? This doesn't seem ideal, thinking a small dedicated key might be less obtrusive?

No. You have to leave key in to remove cap. Once cap is removed you lock the cap and take the key out. You can hang the tether on the hook on the fuel door. When done just put cap in and turn until it clicks. It's already locked.

Mine does not have the tether. I rest it between the box and the cab when fueling up. I like the small dedicated key. I have it on the fob ring with my house key.

Pointless. Jeeps have an anti siphon device, and they are just gonna drill a hole in your tank.
Someone can still spike your gas tank with something that can kill the engine.

The flapper door is not a true anti-siphon device and can be easily defeated. You can even buy special little funnel at any auto parts store that will allow you to siphon all day long. Most people only think about that funnel for putting stuff in.

I bought the cap that is keyed to the FOB. My concern was for vandalism, not theft. The tether broke a long time ago. I just hang the cap on the door.

Which do you think a thief is going to do? Spend 20+ minutes sucking on a hose or drilling a hole in 20 seconds and filling a bucket.

And no the flapper door is not the anti-siphon devices

A good thief will have a hand transfer pump and empty your tank in about a minute into a container of his choosing.

Don't tell me it can't be done since I've done it once already after receiving a bad tank of gas from a gas station. The only thing slowing me down was the flapper, until I put a piece of 1/2" fuel line around siphon hose to hold the flapper open.

Why would they mess with a bucket, or suck on a hose, when battery powered siphon pumps are available?
