I’m considering purchasing a Gladiator and trading in my 2017 Unlimited. What is important to me, and the reason I would trade is towing capacity and hauling. My question to those of you in the know is, is adaptive cruise control something I want or forget it? My unlimited is a stripped down manual transmission Sport, which is just what I wanted. The only thing I really find annoying with it is the manual door locks. But I do you enjoy being able to use cruise control on long drives and live in an area with a lot of stop and go traffic.

in looking for a gladiator that meets what I want, it’s also really annoying cargo system is really hard to find. I’m really just looking for the power plug in the bed. How expensive would it be to install one after the fact?

thanks all!

We got adaptive cruise on our BMW and all the lane change sensor crap as well. We have had both on two BMWs and I never use it. Honestly I haven't use cruise control on any vehicle ever, I'd rather be in control of what I'm doing so it's not something I look for. My wife uses it in the BMWs but me personally it's not a requirement.

We have it on our subarus. Honestly it works extremely well on those cars.

It's not a must have but I will tell you that is is darn convenient.

I don't know how well the FCA technology works.

If traffic is running about 70, I will set cruise at 75 and then tell the system to keep me a fixed distance away from the vehicle in front of me.

That way I speed up or slow a bit with the flow of traffic.

I've driven several hundred miles without touching the gas or brake.

It's pretty nice.

I didn't get it on the jeep. I don't necessarily miss it enough for it to bother me but still, I like it when it's there.

My .02:
if power in the bed is important then I’d get it that way, but before you do TFL Truck did a review and there not enough amps to drive many power tools, they joke it would be best for charging batteries... which would still be very handy... I could also see it being great in a camping use (air pumps, lighting, etc)

For towing; my .02:
Get an auto with the tow package, any trim level will still get you good tow ratings. Without the $350 tow package it’s 4,000 ish.

A max tow sport s is where it’s at for as the name says “Max tow” but also a little better payload. But if towing and hauling are important be sure to get the tow package on any trim and it will be decent. Rubicons with the tow package come in just behind the max tow (I think)

I had to research the package I wanted and there’s posts on here that help, but I’d zero in on the package you want as it can get a little complicated.

Good luck!

You did not say if you were looking to get a manual in the JT, but probably not, as you say the Wrangler is a stripped-down Sport, and you are considering getting adaptive cruise, which would not be indicative of a stripped-down model.

I ordered my JT to get exactly everything I wanted, and nothing I did not want. It is a combination of old school (manual Transmission) and new technology, with creature comforts thrown in.

I have both safety packages, ACC and blind spot monitoring. The parking aids, too. I have never had any such features in a vehicle before, and I absolutely love them. To me the ACC is the best thing to come along since hydraulic brakes. It makes driving safer and less tiring for me. The less tiring part is not having to constantly kill and resume cruise while on the highway because you get behind someone who either is going slower or varies their speed.

The safer part is the forward collision warning and braking (if you activate it). And, no, in spite of what some say, I do not use it as a crutch; rather it is a safety net. It is kind of like airbags: they complicate the car design, increase cost, and if I am an alert driver, I can avoid collisions, so why do I need them?

As you know already, people have strong opinions about these safety features. They do cost a lot. To me they are worth it. Ultimately you have to decide for yourself.

For me personally I did not want or get adaptive cruise. I've seen enough people post here about it stopping when nothing is in front of them.
You can add the plug in the bed easy if you are handy enough, several people here have and I plan to. I would get just the regular tow package on whatever trim suits you best unless you are going to tow something substantial.
I haven't owned a jeep since 2011 jku and I just got a gladiator the other day. I can't believe how nice it is! Good luck!

Got Max Tow since it fit my budget and what I was wanting to do with the truck. Would have liked the Blind Spot detection but with jeep everything is an upcharge so after thinking about the cost decided to nix the option. Haven't really missed it that much so far
