I will add a few more observations.

- while it certainly isn’t my previous V-8 pickups, when you step on the gas, it easily passes traffic. No com-paints in that department.
- my 4-door pick-ups were TERRIBLE to park in any parking lot, anywhere. The Gladiator is much smaller, narrower and turn easier to park.
- gas mileage is 18mpg to date.
- ingress/egress is a bit more challenging since the door opening is smaller. I simply can’t “jump” in the truck like I could with the RAM or Tundra. No big deal just an observation.
- I added a bedliner because the bed floor seems like a much lighter gauge/thinner material than my previous trucks. I was going to Line-X the bed but opted for the drop-in bedliner to prevent denting it.
- visibility is fantastic!
- side mirrors are a bit small for my liking, but if it’s an issue in The future, I’m sure there is a solution out there, I simply haven’t been bothered enough by it to begin the research.
- lack of interior storage space(console & glovebox) compared to previous trucks.

So I don't tow but I had some of the same feelings as you at different parts of the buying process. I have wanted a jeep wrangler at different stages of my life but never pulled the trigger... I had a 94 Grand Cherokee V8 that I loved.

I did months of research before test driving and I wasn't happy. Spending this kind of money on a truck with this finish had my head spinning. Manual seats... 50-60k .. cloth.. what am I doing. After some reflecting on it, it's really a Jeep with a truck bed. You have to accept it's a jeep and it's fun. Don't try to make it something it's not.

If you don't want a jeep don't get a gladiator. Like you really want to accept it as a Jeep. Yea you might have a little leak or something.. or have some other little things... You will want to mod it.

Test drive it before you spend a ton of time researching it. Just get into one and see if you feel good.

When we were doing the 'build and price' tool the diesel wasn't an option it would let us keep when adding the max tow package. I believe it also wouldn't let us keep the manual transmission when we tried to select the diesel engine. Is your 5,000lb trailer the heaviest you have pulled with it? We have been looking at buying a camper within the next 3 years and want whatever we buy to be able to handle it. Most campers we have looked at that fit our family seem to be floating in around the 7,000lb mark.
At that point, the JT is not the right tool for you my friend.

In terms of Maxtow, you must get a sport or sport s (I believe) and the automatic trans as the manual’s clutch is not adequate for heavy loads. Even then, it is a max tow capacity of like 7,600ish lbs.

The diesel is an awesome motor with tons more usable torque, but due to some cooling concerns and the added weight of the motor the towing is capped at 6,000lbs on all models from what I recall. However, my 5,000lb trailer didn’t even feel like it was there. Albeit, 5,000lbs is fully loaded as verified by the scales

JT is a lifestyle vehicle and designed to be a Swiss Army knife, not a machete, if that makes sense.
