It’s especially noticeable when the hood is up, but I can also hear it when driving. I’m not sure what this is or if it’s worth me making an appointment at the dealership any advice on how to diagnose or what it could be would be appreciated.

Mine is a 22 diesel and have the same thing. Would love to know what it is.

Retired. Beach bum.
Diesel will sound louder. But gas should be running smooth with no extra click/clack noises. That means some valve train parts are wearing out. Sooner or later to effect the valve timing and throw a code.

It is a gas, sorry should have included. So does this mean a dealership trip is in my future 😬

Frankly, I'm not really hearing anything but loud injectors.
Go ahead and get it checked, but be prepared to hear 'em say "no problem here".

I hope you're right @ShadowsPapa because I swear I am getting it as well, it is not as loud but I'm sure its there or my paranoia is telling me its there 😳

I mean it definitely didn’t used to do this and has been getting worse so that’s what has me scheduling the appointment. Fingers crossed it isn’t the rocker cam issue that seems to be a big issue lately.

So hard to tell from an audio recording..... but my wager is on it being normal injector noise. They are a bit ticky in general on this motor.

You can use a mechanics stethoscope ($5?) or a long screwdriver pressed to the valve covers to see if it comes from one side or another. If it's on the passenger side only... then I'll change my bet to worn cam. :)

I had this with my JKU and it wasn't fun, cost me over 3k to fix and that was with a corporate discount which I had to beg for, due to my warranty expired. I have been seeing this a LOT in the forums lately, hopefully it is not the infamous rocker arm replacement. Keep us posted!

JKU was a different issue.

One can also try a fuel additive - something like a good fuel injector cleaner/lubricant.
Low cost, and if it doesn't resolve anything, little lost.

Agree.. a bit hard on that video as it sounds like the standard typewriter injector ticking. Mine had the typewriter ticking from day one. The main thing I noticed is that our engine don’t have that plastic cover on top which muffled the typewriter noise from the injectors a bit vs engines with the plastic cover (earlier JT’s). I’m also going on the assumption that the sound we are looking for in a bad valve train would sound like an old school solid tap cam and lifters? When I put a stethoscope to either side I hear the ticking of the injectors more so if someone revs the engine. Just my 2 cents 🤷‍♂️
