I love my SelecTrac. I had it on this weekend just driving on back roads. It reduces the chance of an inside wheel spinning and then the stability control cutting power. So it's also useful in the city if you might have to punch it at a light to make a left turn before traffic reacts.
Living in NH for much of the winter, I pretty much left it on from Nov through March. Though when the roads are dry, I'll cycle it on and off a few times to just exercise the FAD. I dont' know if this is necessary, but it can't hurt.
